SCHORMAN TOSSES 5-INNING NO-HITTER IN WIN OVER OKAWVILLE — On a day when Mother Nature did her best to wash out all prep athletics, the Marquette Catholic Explorers played and played well.
Marquette blasted Okawville on the road 18-0 in five innings and got a dominant performance from freshman pitcher Meghan Schorman. Schorman tossed a no-hitter over five innings, walking one and striking out 11 on 71 pitches.
With the victory, the Explorers improved to 8-4 on the season, while Okawville dipped to 4-6.
Schorman wielded a solid bat at the plate too, going 1 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs, while drawing three walks to boot. Sam Harshbarger and Megan Wittich each picked up three hits in the win, while Grace Frost, Miranda Schroeder and Emma Taylor tallied two hits apiece.
Frost joined Schorman by knocking in three runs. Kalie Buecker, Tess Eberlin, Frost and Taylor all smacked doubles in the triumph.
Marquette is scheduled to play Calhoun at 4:30 p.m. today at Gordon Moore Park, weather pending. If that game is washed out, the Explorers will sit idle until 4:30 p.m. Monday when they travel to Mount Olive for a Prairie State Conference showdown.
