Civic Memorial Eagles
CM WINS TRIANGULAR — Civic Memorial knocked Marquette Catholic from the unbeaten ranks Tuesday and extended its success.
The Eagles shot a 160 score for a three-stroke victory over the previously undefeated Explorers (163) at the Spencer T. Olin Community Course on Tuesday. Alton finished third at 173.
The pair of wins lifted CM to 15-1. Marquette dropped to 18-1.
J. Ryan Waters carded a 1-under-par 35 to lead the Eagles and earn medalist honors. Eric Howes (40), Alec Hilliard (41) and Parker Calvin (44) also contributed to the cause.
Michael Holtz recorded a 37, tops for Marquette. Max Goepel (40), Steve Elliott (42) and Andrew McCluskey (44) added to the Explorers’ total. Alex Rubin (38) paced Alton. Andrew Campbell (42), Mitch King (46) and Sam Ballard (47) also figured in the Redbirds’ scoring.
REDBIRDS SUFFER LOSS – Alton saw its 16-match winning streak get snapped as Collinsville defeated the Redbirds at AHS, 19-25, 25-20 and 25-22.
Savannah Fisher collected nine service points, nine digs and six kills to pace the Birds. Megan Paulda (10 kills, 17 digs), Jordan Nolan (29 assists, 9 digs), Kailin Haug (10 service points), Jada Green (10 kills) and Rachel Cauley (16 digs and six service points) also contributed in the loss.
Alton is now 19-2 and 2-1 in the Southwestern Conference.
OILERS PREVAIL OVER EXPLORERS – Host East Alton-Wood River scored a 25-10, 26-24 victory over Marquette in a Prairie State Conference match on Tuesday.
Alyssa Herzing (eight assists), Caitlyn Hanlon (four digs and three aces), Taylor Rook (three kills and two blocks), Brittany Pace (three kills) and Maggie Aery (four digs) led the Explorers in the loss.
SHELLS STUMBLE VS. CAVALIERS – South Central Conference powerhouse Carlinville scored a 25-21, 25-12 win over host Roxana in league play Tuesday.
The Shells slipped to 11-7 overall on the season with the loss.
EAGLES GET CLIPPED AT TRIAD — The Civic Memorial Eagles traveled to Triad on Tuesday for a Mississippi Valley Conference match and came up short.
The Knights defeated the Eagles in three games, 20-25, 25-12, 27-25. CM is now 4-9 overall and 0-2 in the MVC following the loss.
Kennedy Carnes led the Eagles with six kills, three solo blocks and six assisted blocks, all with Kaity Kappler who also had three kills and one solo block. Saige Gehrs also had six kills.
Monica Ledesma contributed 13 assists to pace the offense, Summer Standefer turned in 17 digs, 11 service points and four aces, while Alaina Trosley had 15 digs and four kills. Baleigh Gehrs had three kills and one solo block also.
ROXANA FINISHES FOURTH – The host Shells shot a 215 score to finish fourth in a quadrangular at Belk Park. Miranda Cunningham logged a 49 to lead Roxana.
Belleville Althoff (157) placed first, followed by Waterloo (192) and Triad (194). Alaina Irwin of Althoff was medalist with a 2-over-par 38.
