EAGLES SET NEW BENCHMARK FOR WINS — The Civic Memorial Eagles set a new benchmark for their program on Wednesday at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course.
The Eagles shot a 168 to beat Granite City's 185 and set a school record in wins, improving to 23-2. The previous best was 22-6 in the 1987 season.
Alec Hilliard garnered medalist honors for CM with a 3-over par 39. J. Ryan Waters (40), Konnar Loewen (43), Eric Howes (46) and Parker Calvin (46) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles.
CM was supposed to play in the Mississippi Valley Conference Tournament today at Belk Park Golf Course in Wood River, but due to rain the tournament has been pushed back to Thursday, Oct. 9 at 9 a.m. at Belk.
The Eagles will participate in the Class 2A Roxana Regional at Belk on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
CM TAKES THIRD IN MVC TOURNEY — The Civic Memorial Eagles finished third in the Mississippi Valley Conference Tournament on Wednesday at Belk Park Golf Course in Wood River.
The Eagles fired a 387 as a team, trailing only Highland (353) and Waterloo (376). The rest of the field rounded out with: Mascoutah (405), Triad (411) and Jersey, which only entered three golfers, not figuring into the team scores.
Highland's Emily VonderHaar was the overall medalist with a 77. CM was led by Sara Gwillim with an 87. Gwillim's score was third overall individually. The remainder of the CM lineup saw Kayla Slavens shoot 95 — 11th overall individually — Izzy Roberts fire a 97 and Angelina Bailey and Lisa Logterman both card 108s.
CM will be a part of the Class A Marquette Regional on Oct. 8 at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course inside Alton's Gordon Moore Park.
ROXANA WINS THREE — The Roxana Shells compiled an impressive first day at the Morrisonville Tournament on Wednesday.
The Shells defeated Bunker Hill 27-25, 25-23, Mulberry Grove 25-6, 25-14 and Edinburg 25-11, 25-14 to go 3-0 on the tournament's opening day.
Roxana elevated its season mark to 14-8 with the trio of victories and will compete in the championship bracket of the tourney on Saturday.
