ALTON TAKES SECOND TO ALTHOFF AT ANNEBRIAR — The Alton Redbirds traveled to Annebriar Golf Course in Waterloo for a triangular Wednesday and came away with a second place finish.
Alton fired a 189 to follow Althoff's 174 and defeat Columbia's 190.
Morgan Bemis paced the Redbirds with a 41 and was joined in the scoring by Annie Maynard (44), Katie Keller (49) and Addison Gregory (55).
CM FALLS IN TRIANGULAR AT ARLINGTON GREENS — The Civic Memorial Eagles battled in a triangular at Arlington Greens Golf Course in Granite City and came up a little short.
The Eagles carded a 191 to slide in behind Collinsville (173) and Highland (188).
Addison Wickiser of the Kahoks won medalist honors with a 39. CM was led by Sara Gwillim and Carmen Phillips, who each shot 42. Isabella Roberts (52) and Maisey Watson (55) rounded out the team scoring.
ROXANA LOSES TO EDWARDSVILLE — The Roxana Shells played host to Edwardsville at Belk Park Golf Course on Wednesday, but fell short.
Roxana shot 208 to finish behind the Tigers (162).
Edwardsville's Kayla Weinacht and Paige Hamel tied for medalist honors, each shooting 39s. Roxana was guided by Andrea Mellenthin and Bailey Sharpmack who both fired 45s. Sam Edwards (57) and Emily Richards (61) completed the team scoring for the Shells.
ALTON DROPS SWC DUAL AT HOME; HUNTER MEDALIST — The Alton Redbirds played host to Belleville East at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course on Wednesday, but came up short.
Alton fired a 170 but slid in behind Belleville East (164), despite Max Hunter earning medalist honors with a par-36 score.
The remainder of the AHS scoring came from: Sam Ballard (40), Tysen Barton (46) and Ryan Boud (48).
MARQUETTE STUMBLES VS. GIBAULT, 1-0 — The Marquette Catholic Explorers welcomed the Gibault Hawks to Gordon Moore Park on Wednesday and fell 1-0.
The Explorers sank to 3-2-1 with the loss.
Marquette and Gibault mirrored each other with 10 fouls, three corners and 10 shots apiece. Dalton Scace of the Hawks scored the lone goal on an assist from Karson Huels. Scace scored in the 58th minute.
Marquette goalie Brandon Sanfilippo secured nine saves in the loss.
The Explorers return to action at 11 a.m. Saturday at Althoff and battle Edwardsville at 6 p.m. Monday at home for a Labor Day game.
EXPLORERS GET PROGRAM'S FIRST WIN — The first-year field hockey program for the Marquette Catholic Explorers celebrated its first win on Wednesday.
Marquette rallied past Brentwood to win 3-2 in a shootout. Danielle Folkerts scored twice in regulation on assists from Melissa Lurkins to lead the Explorers into overtime. Folkerts second goal erased a 2-1 deficit.
After a scoreless 10-minute OT, Folkerts and Cayli Shinstock each scored during the shootout to outscore Brentwood 2-1 and secure the win. Brentwood only mustered one goal on five attempts during the shootout against Marquette goalie Katelyn Fitzgerald.
