ALTON BURIES WEST, 75-58 — The Alton Redbirds traveled to Belleville West on Friday and snapped a three-game losing skid with a 75-58 win in the Southwestern Conference.
Alton improved to 8-5 and 5-1 in the SWC with the triumph, while the Maroons dropped to 4-9 and 1-5 with the loss.
Marcus Latham erupted for 25 points, while Maurice Edwards punched in 23 to lead the charge in the win. Jordan Golley chipped in with 11 points and Kevin Caldwell, Jr. netted 10 for good measure.
The Birds nailed 10 treys during the victory, while their defense forced West into 21 turnovers, 14 in the second half.
West's Tyler Dancy led all scorers with 26 points.
EA-WR FALLS IN VANDALIA — The East Alton-Wood River Oilers stumbled in a nonconference affair at Vandalia Friday, losing to the Vandals 84-63.
EA-WR suffered its fifth consecutive loss, sinking to 4-11 on the season with the loss.
Blake Marks recorded a double double in the loss with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Christian Hunter netted 15 points and Justin Englar had 11 to complement Marks.
ROXANA STUMBLES IN GREENVILLE — The Roxana Shells went to Greenville Friday for a South Central Conference showdown and came away with a 57-51 loss.
Roxana is 9-6 overall and 1-2 in the SCC on the season following the setback, while the Comets produced their sixth straight win to improve to 9-6 and 4-0.
ALTON WINS ON THE ROAD — The Alton Redbirds picked up a 31-24 victory over Oswego in a dual on the road Friday.
The Birds are right back on the mat Saturday, heading to the Geneva Tournament.
