ALTON 3, AFFTON 0 — The Redbirds go to 2-0 in the CYC/Bob Guelker Soccer Tournament with a shutout win over the Affton Cougars on Tuesday.
Alton also improved to 9-2 and has matched its win total from last year. The Redbirds can surpass that mark on Wednesday with a win over the Seckman Jaguars in their final game in pool play. A victory will also advance Alton into the tournament semifinals.
Logan Clark, Skylar Funk and Matthew Paulda scored goals for the Redbirds.
EDWARDSVILLE 3, COLUMBIA (MO.) ROCK BRIDGE 0 — The Tigers scored three second-half goals en route to a 4-0 win over the Rock Bridge Bruins on the road.
Edwardsville, which improved to 10-0-2, got goals from Michael Glisson, Mohammad Hamad, Alec Mills and Andrew Joseph.
Daniel Picchiotti and Michael Hoelting shared the shutout in goal for the Tigers, who will play Normal at 12:45 p.m. Saturday at home.
LADUE 4, MARQUETTE CATHOLIC 0 — The Explorers dropped to 7-3 after being shut out by Ladue in a CYC/Bob Guelker Tournament game on Tuesday at Columbia High School.
Marquette, which was blanked for the first time this season, will play Triad at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Triad High School.
Nick Heman made 10 saves in goal for the Explorers.
EA-WR 5, CARLYLE 0 — Zac Lafferty scored three goals and Andrew Raymond and Nick Ellis each scored a goal to lift the Oilers to a road win over the Indians on Tuesday.
EA-WR improved to 9-3 and will play at Father McGivney at 4:30 p.m. today on the road. The Oilers beat the Griffins 2-1 in the last meeting on Sept. 1.
WESCLIN 4, METRO-EAST LUTHERAN 1 — The Knights dropped to 5-5-1 with a loss to Wesclin on Tuesday on the road.
MELHS will play North Mac on Thursday at home.
MARQUETTE 144, JERSEY 188 — The Explorers improved to 13-1 with a 44-stroke win over the Panthers on Tuesday at Rolling Hills Golf Course.
Michael Holtz shot a 3-under-33, Duncan McLain fired a 36, Nick Messinger finished with a 37, Kolten Bauer and Sam Cogan each shot a 38 and Jack Patterson had a 40 for the Explorers, who celebrated senior day on Tuesday. Holtz, McLain and Messinger make up the senior class.
Marquette will compete against Roxana, East Alton-Wood River and Jersey at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at Belk Park Golf Course.
BELLEVILLE EAST 156, GRANITE CITY 181 — Riley Brown shot a 43, Drew Wielgus fired a 45 and Sam Wielgus finished with a 46 to lead the Warriors in their Southwestern Conference loss to the Lancers on Tuesday at Clinton Hills.
Granite City dropped to 5-8 and finished its conference dual-match play at 2-4. The Warriors will play in the Dick Gerber Invitational on Friday at Oak Brook Golf Club.
EDWARDSVILLE 169, GRANITE CITY 239 — The Tigers improved to 16-0 with a 70-stroke victory over the Warriors on Tuesday at Oak Brook Golf Club.
Sydney Sahuri shot a 40, Addy Zeller fired a 42, Kayla Weinacht finished with a 43 and Jessica Benson had a 44 for Edwardsville, which is 5-0 in conference play and will play Belleville West on Wednesday, at Oak Brook Golf Course.
Granite City will play Alton at 4 p.m. today at Rolling Hills Golf Course.
MARQUETTE 176, COLUMBIA 195, HILLSBORO 252 – Ellie Kane earned medalist honors by shooting a 38 as the Explorers celebrated a win over the Eagles and Hiltoppers at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course on Tuesday.
Also for Marquette, Annie Kane finished with a 44, Lauren Walsh shot a 47 and Madi Connors had a 48.
The Explorers will play in the St. Anthony Tournament on Sep. 29 at Effingham.
ALTHOFF 183, WATERLOO 193, TRIAD 194, ROXANA 270 – The Shells lost to the Crusaders, Bulldogs and Knights in a triangular match at Belk Park Golf Course on Tuesday.
Roxana plays Triad, Civic Memorial and Staunton today at Cloverleaf Golf Course.
EDWARDSVILLE 9, COLLINSVILLE 0; EDWARDSVILLE 9, WATERLOO 0 – The Tigers improved to 10-7-1 with wins over the Kahoks and Bulldogs on Tuesday.
Edwardsville split its squad in the matches against Collinsville and Waterloo. The match against the Kahoks was played at Edwardsville and the contest against the Bulldogs was played at Waterloo.
With the win over Collinsville, the Tigers improved to 4-0 in conference play.
Against Waterloo, Natalie Karibian, Abby Cimarolli, Annie McGinnis, Grace Trimpe, Noni Updyke and Emily Greer had wins in singles. In doubles, Karibian/Cimarolli, McGinnis/Updyke and Trimpe/Greer were winners.
In the match with the Kahoks, EHS got victories in singles from: Morgan Colbert, Grace Desse, Mackenzie Cadigan, Maria Mezo, Kilauren McMahon and Alyssa Wilson. Doubles victors were: Colbert/Desse, Cadigan/Mezo and McMahon/Wilson.
Edwardsville returns to action today against Jerseyville at home.
HIGHLAND 9, GRANITE CITY 0 — The Warriors dropped to 0-7 with a home loss to the Bulldogs on Tuesday.
Granite City travels to East St. Louis on Wednesday to play a conference match against the Flyers.
ROXANA DEF. CARLINVILLE 26-24, 25-19 — Niah Bevolo had 18 assists, Braeden Lackey had nine kills, Taylor Westfall finished with eight kills, Brittany Alexander had nine digs and Hannah Kelly had four blocks to lead the Shells to a South Central Conference win over the Cavaliers on Tuesday.
Roxana won its third straight match and improved to 12-5 overall and 3-2 in league play. The Shells play at Southwestern on Sept. 27.
EDWARDSVILLE DEF. ALTHOFF 25-17, 25-12 — After a five-day break, the Tigers returned to action on Tuesday and cruised to a two-game win over the Crusaders at home.
Rachel Pranger had 10 kills, Shelby Saye fired four aces and Rachel Verdun had 16 assists for Edwardsville, which improved to 12-3 and will play East St. Louis in a Southwestern Conference match on Thursday at home.
COLLINSVILLE DEF. ALTON 25-22, 25-21 — The Redbirds dropped to 0-2 in Southwestern Conference play with a two-game loss to the Kahoks on Tuesday.
Savannah Fisher finished with five kills and Kassidy Funke had 11 assists for Alton, which dropped to 11-7 and will play Holt and Hazelwood Central on Friday in the Ritenour Tournament.
METRO-EAST LUTHERAN DEF. SOUTHWESTERN 22-25, 25-22, 25-23 – Lydia Flaherty finished with a school-record 39 assists to lead the Knights to a win over the Piasa Birds on Tuesday at home.
Danielle Timmerman had 11 kills and 11 service points, Ellen Schulte finished with nine kills and three blocks and Courtney Fenelon had eight kills and 11 service points for MELHS, which improved to 7-13 and will play a home match on Thursday against Bunker Hill.
FATHER MCGIVNEY DEF. BARAT ACADEMY 25-18, 25-9 – The Griffins improved to 4-9 with a road win over Barat Academy on Tuesday.
Father McGivney will travel to East Alton-Wood River on Thursday to take on the Oilers. On Aug. 27, the Griffins beat EA-WR at the Roxana Tournament for their first ever win in varsity play.
