ALTON 2, BELLEVILLE EAST 1 — The Redbirds began their Southwestern Conference season on Tuesday with a win over the Lancers on the road.
Alton improved to 5-1. The Redbirds bounced back from a 3-1 loss to Quincy on Saturday.
Alton plays Althoff at home on Wednesday.
GRANITE CITY 2, BELLEVILLE WEST 2 — Zach Medlin and Lucas Rainwater each scored goals to help the Warriors finish in a tie with Belleville West in a Southwestern Conference game on Tuesday at Gene Baker Field.
Granite City is 0-2-4 overall and 0-0-2 in Southwestern Conference play. The Warriors have played three home matches and all of them ended in a tie.
The Warriors will play Sacred Heart-Griffin on Saturday at Gene Baker Field.
METRO EAST LUTHERAN 6, ROXANA 0 — Kendric Norwood scored five goals to lift the Knights to a win over the Shells on Tuesday at MELHS.
Michael Papka also scored for the Knights, who improved to 4-3.
Roxana dropped to 1-6 after being shut out for the fourth time this season.
EA-WR 3, HILLSBORO 2 -- The Oilers improved to 5-2 with a come-from-behind win over the Hilltoppers on Tuesday at Wood River Soccer Park.
EA-WR came back from a 2-0 halftime deficit to score all three goals in the second half. Jordan Schmigdall scored two goals and Luke Sims added a goal for the Oilers, who have won four games in a row and will play a home game against Freeburg on Wednesday.
FATHER MCGIVNEY 3, STAUNTON 1 — Eli Skubish scored a hat trick to lead the Griffins to win over Staunton on Tuesday.
Father McGivney (5-1-2) plays McCluer North in a home game on Thursday.
GRANITE CITY 172, BELLEVILLE WEST 181 — Granite City junior Drew Wielgus earned medalist honors after finishing with a 35 in the Warriors' victory over Belleville West on Tuesday at the Legacy.
Granite City, which improved to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in Southwestern Conference play, will compete in the Terrier 2-Man Challenge on Friday at Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale.
MARQUETTE 174, AUBURN 203, GREENVILLE 219, LITCHFIELD 225, ROXANA 247 — Marquette's Ellie Kane shot a 39 to earn medalist honors in the Explorers' victory in a five-team meet against Auburn, Greenville, Litchfield and Roxana on Tuesday at Litchfield Country Club.
EDWARDSVILLE 9, ALTON 0 — The Tigers improved to 4-5 overall in dual action on the season with a victory over the Redbirds on Tuesday at home.
Morgan Colbert, Natalie Karibian, Mackenzie Cadagin, Abby Cimarolli Annie McGinnis and Noni Updyke won singles matches. The doubles teams of Colbert/Grace Desse, Cadagin/Maria Mezo and Emily Greer/Grace Timpe picked up victories.
Alton's next match will be against Highland on Wednesday at home. Edwardsville will compete in the Columbia (Mo.) Duals on Friday.
BELLEVILLE WEST 9, GRANITE CITY 0 — The Warriors dropped 0-2 with a loss to Belleville West on Tuesday in their Southwestern Conference opener at home.
Granite City, which started its season on Thursday with a 9-0 loss to Triad, travels to Collinsville on Thursday.
CIVIC MEMORIAL 5, COLLINSVILLE 4 — Samantha Mann, Ryan Allison and Morgan Butler won their singles matches in three sets to help CM pull off a road victory over the Kahoks on Tuesday.
MARQUETTE 9, MCCLUER NORTH 0 — The Explorers improved to 2-1 with a victory over the Stars on Tuesday at home.
Shelby Jones, Anne Tassinari, Adri Ventigmlia, Abby Simonds, Maria Wendle and Allison Peuterbaugh won singles matches. The doubles teams of Jones/Tassinari, Ventigmlia/Simonds and Wendle/Peuterbaugh also picked up victories.
Marquette plays Metro East Lutheran on Thursday.
METRO EAST LUTHERAN 9, EA-WR 0 -- The Knights picked up a win over the Oilers on the road on Tuesday.
Heather Moore-Malec, Cierra Frields, Kathryn Butler, Maycen O'Leary, Tori Roderick and Amber Keplar won singles matches. The doubles teams of Moore-Malec/Frields, Butler/O'Leary and Roderick/Keplar. All of the matches were played in a eight-game pro set.
MELHS will compete in the Herrin Invitational on Saturday. EA-WR travels to Roxana on Wednesday.
ROXANA DEF. BUNKER HILL 19-25, 25-19, 25-13 — The Shells improved to 5-2 with a three-game non-conference home victory over Bunker Hill on Tuesday.
Roxana travels to Greenville on Thursday to play the Comets in a South Central Conference game. The Shells are 1-1 in conference play.
MARQUETTE DEF. HILLSBORO 26-24, 22-25, 25-20 — The Explorers improved to 5-3 with a three-game win over the Hiltoppers on Tuesday in their first road match of the season.
Regina Guehlstorf had eight kills and six blocks, Marissa Nosco finished with 20 assists, Kate Cogan had eight kills, Carly Creel had nine service points, Laura Hamilton had 24 digs and Michelle Cameron had nine service points and three service aces.
Marquette will play another road match on Wednesday, when it heads to Jersey.
METRO EAST LUTHERAN DEF. NOKOMIS 25-11, 25-20 – The Knights improved to 3-5 with a Prairie State Conference victory over Nokomis at home.
MELHS, which won its third straight match, was led by Danielle Timmerman with four kills and 12 digs, Ashlee Robinson with seven kills and Lydia Flaherty with 22 assists.
The Knights play Granite City at 7 p.m. Wednesday at home.
LITCHFIELD DEF. EA-WR 25-23, 25-22 — The Oilers fell to 1-5 with a two-game loss to Litchfield on Tuesday at home.
EA-WR's next match will be against Gillespie at 8 a.m. Saturday in the EA-WR/Marquette Tournament.
FATHER MCGIVNEY DEF. CHRIST OUR SAVIOR 25-22, 25-16 — The Griffins improved to 3-5 with a win over Christ Our Savior.
Father McGivney plays a home match against Okawville on Thursday.
SOUTHWESTERN QUAD — Jake Peal earned his first victory as Civic Memorial cross country coach after the Eagles' boys' squad won a quadrangular meet on Tuesday at Piasa Southwestern High.
CM scored 22 points in the boys' race and Zoey Lewis and Lydia Peal finished fourth and seventh, respectively, in the girls' race.
The meet also included Southwestern, Staunton and Carrollton.
