CM WINS QUAD OVER ROXANA, STAUNTON AND MELHS — The Civic Memorial Eagles traveled to Timber Lakes Golf Course in Staunton Wednesday and won a quadrangular meet.
The Eagles shot 167 to take first. The rest of the field rounded out with: Staunton (179), Metro East Lutheran (180) and Roxana (181). CM is now 13-2 on the season.
Alec Hilliard of the Eagles nabbed medalist honors with a 1-under 35. The rest of CM's scoring lineup included: Will Spencer (43), Parker Calvin (44) and Jack Sconce (45).
Roxana was led by Scott Anderson with a 1-over 37. He was joined on the Shells' scoring list by: Zach Carlisle (41), Brandon Kelly (47) and Justin Dearduff (56).
ALTON FALLS TO BELLEVILLE EAST — The Alton Redbirds played host to a Southwestern Conference dual against Belleville East Wednesday, but came away on the losing end.
Alton carded a 196, while the Lancers fired a 185. AHS' Annie Maynard finished one stroke off medalist Daphne Lane of East. Maynard shot a 44, while Lane carded a 43.
The rest of the lineup for the Redbirds filled out with: Morgan Bemis (45), Addison Gregory (50) and Jenna Fleming (57).
Alton head coach Carey Cappel said, “The Redbirds continue to fight, work hard and improve... I challenge them every day and we set new goals for each match. They continue to respond. We are on the up and up.”
ALTON TOPPLES MCCLUER IN TOURNEY — It took extra time, but the Alton Redbirds slipped past McCluer 1-0 in overtime Wednesday in the McCluer Tournament.
The Redbirds ran their record to 6-2-2 with the win and are in the midst of a four-game winning streak.
Nick Hatfield tickled the twine for the Birds in the victory. He was assisted by Skylar Funk. Devin Colley continues to shine in goal, picking up the shutout.
Next up is Hazelwood Central on Friday in the tournament.
ROXANA COMES UP SHORT IN OT VS. HILLSBORO — The Roxana Shells put forth a valiant effort against South Central Conference rival Hillsboro on Wednesday at home, but came up short 2-1 in double overtime.
Roxana scored a second-half goal to knot it at 1-1 at the end of regulation, but Hillsboro found the back of the net in double OT to get the win.
The Shells are now 3-5-1 on the season and 0-2 in the SCC.
ROXANA FALLS TO LITCHFIELD IN SCC PLAY — The Roxana Shells fell in three games to Litchfield in SCC play Wednesday, 23-25, 25-16, 25-18.
The Shells fell to 7-11 overall and 1-2 in the SCC with the loss.
Abby Palen produced 12 service points and three aces to pace Roxana's service game. Braeden Lackey had six kills to lead the offense, while Taylor Westfall chipped in five kills. Niah Bevolo dished out 12 assists, while the defense was led by Keely Reardon and Kara Mayer with seven digs apiece.
CM LOSES TO JERSEY — The Civic Memorial Eagles lost 6-3 in Mississippi Valley Conference play on Wednesday.
The Eagles won twice in singles and once in doubles, but it wasn't enough to get by the Panthers.
