CM CRUISES BY MASCOUTAH ON THE ROAD — The Civic Memorial Eagles picked up a Mississippi Valley Conference victory Monday on the road, cruising past the Mascoutah Indians 58-35.
The win elevated the Eagles to 18-10 overall and 5-4 in the MVC, while the Indians dipped to 15-11 and 4-5 on the league slate.
CM exploded to a 19-3 lead at the close of the first quarter Monday and never looked back. The Eagles led 35-16 at halftime and 52-28 after three quarters on the way to the win.
Allie Troeckler led the charge with 26 points and 8 rebounds for CM. Alaira Tyus chipped in with 8 points and 9 assists, while Kaylee Eaton, Katelyn Turbyfill and Kalyn Troxell each punched in 6 points. Turbyfill also yanked down 7 rebounds in the triumph.
The Eagles now play host to the Jersey Panthers in their regular season finale at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Bethalto.
They are cast in the Class 3A Salem Regional as the No. 4 seed out of the subsectional. CM opens play at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 16, awaiting the winner between fifth-seeded Effingham and ninth-seeded Olney (Richland County). Effingham and Olney meet at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 15.
No. 1 seed Salem plays the early game on Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. The host Wildcats face the winner between No. 7 Centralia and No. 8 Mount Vernon, which battle at 6 p.m. on Feb. 14 to see who advances.
The regional final is scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 18 at Salem High. It feeds into the Benton Sectional, beginning Feb. 22.
