CIVIC MEMORIAL DEF. JERSEY 25-15, 25-18 – The Eagles improved to 12-9-1 overall and 2-3 in Mississippi Valley Conference play with a two-game road win over the Panthers.
CM, which snapped a 32-match conference match losing streak with a win over Triad last week, defeated Jersey for the second time this season.
Kaity Kappler finished with seven kills, Kennedy Carnes had six kills and Baleigh Gehrs had five. Sydney Marshall had 25 assists, Cara Melton had six kills, 12 digs and eight service points with three aces and Annika Ochs had 11 digs and eight service points.
The Eagles will play a home match against Highland at 6 p.m. Thursday. CM lost to the Bulldogs twice this year.
ROXANA DEF. SOUTHWESTERN 25-15, 25-10 – After a week break, the Shells returned to action on Tuesday with a two-game road victory over the Piasa Birds.
Roxana won its fourth straight match and improved to 13-5 overall and 4-2 in South Central Conference play. The Shells will play in the Morrisonville Tournament today.
MT. OLIVE DEF. MARQUETTE CATHOLIC 22-25, 25-17, 25-23 – The Explorers dropped to 9-11 overall and 1-2 in Prairie State Conference play with a three-game home loss to the Wildcats on Tuesday.
Marissa Nosco had 22 assists and 10 service points with three aces, Michelle Cameron finished with 10 kills and 10 service points, Kate Cogan had nine service points and three kills, Regina Guehlstorf had seven blocks, four kills and three service points, Laura Hamilton had 17 digs and Brooklyn Taylor had four kills and four service points for the Explorers, who will play Metro East Lutheran in another home conference match at 7 tonight.
SOUTH CENTRAL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT – Roxana’s Bailey Sharpmack won the individual championship at the South Central Conference Tournament on Tuesday at the Rail Golf Course in Springfield.
Sharpmack shot an 11-over-82 on a par-71 course. She won her second tournament championship and earned medalist honors for the eighth time this season.
JERSEY 174, EA-WR 182, LITCHFIELD 185, CIVIC MEMORIAL 201 – EA-WR’s Drew Sobol earned medalist honors by shooting a 38 in a quadrangular meet against Jersey, Litchfield and Civic Memorial on Tuesday at Belk Park Golf Course.
MARQUETTE CATHOLIC 1, FATHER MCGIVNEY 1 – Father McGivney is 8-4-4 and Marquette is 7-5-1 after the two teams finished in a tie on Tuesday at Gordon Moore Park.
Marquette’s Aaron Boulch and Father McGivney’s Eli Skubish each scored goals.
The Explorers play at Edwardsville at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The Griffins play Metro East Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at home.
HIGHLAND 3, CIVIC MEMORIAL 0 – The Eagles dropped under the .500 mark for the first time this season after falling to the Bulldogs on Tuesday at home.
Jacoby Robinson finished with 24 saves in goal for CM, which dropped to 6-7 overall and 0-6 in Mississippi Valley Conference play and will play at Waterloo at 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
COLLINSVILLE 6, GRANITE CITY 0 – The Warriors dropped to 1-6-6 overall and 0-2-2 in Southwestern Conference play with a loss to the Kahoks on Tuesday at Collinsville.
The six goals allowed marked a season high for Granite City. Matt Woods finished six saves and Braden Dickerson had three saves in goal for the Warriors, who will play Louisville Collegiate at 6:30 p.m. Friday in a Gateway City Classic match at Oerter Park in Columbia.
CARLINVILLE 6, ROXANA 2 -- The Shells dropped to 1-13 overall and 1-6 in South Central Conference play with a home loss to the Cavaliers on Tuesday.
Roxana plays EA-WR at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wood River Soccer Park.
MARQUETTE 7, GREENVILLE 2 – Shelby Jones, Adri Ventigmlia, Anne Tassinari, Abby Simonds and Maria Wendle each had singles victories in the Explorers’ win over the Comets.
Marquette, which is 5-4, will play a road match against Belleville West at 4 today.
EDWARDSVILLE 7, O’FALLON 2 – The Tigers finished with an unbeaten season in Southwestern Conference play with a win over the Panthers on Tuesday.
Morgan Colbert, Natalie Karibian, Grace Desse, Mackenzie Cadagin and Maria Mezo won singles matches. The doubles teams of Colbert/Desse and Karibian/Abby Cimarolli also picked up victories.
Edwardsville plays in the Lockport Invitational at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
BELLEVILLE EAST 9, GRANITE CITY 0 – The Warriors were shut out by the Lancers in a Southwestern Conference road match on Tuesday.
Granite City will play Alton at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at home.
CIVIC MEMORIAL 9, EA-WR 0 – The Eagles cruised to a home victory over the Oilers on Tuesday.
CM will play Highland at 4:15 p.m. Thursday in a Mississippi Valley Conference road match. EA-WR’s next match will be 4 p.m. on Oct. 6 at Metro-East Lutheran.
LITCHFIELD TRIANGULAR MEET – Marquette got top-5 finishes from a pair of runners in its triangular meet with Litchfield and Staunton on Tuesday at Litchfield.
Freshman Riley Vickrey placed fourth with a time of 19 minutes, 39 seconds in the girls’ race and senior Adam Sanders finished fifth with a 19:15 in the boys’ race.
The Explorers finished third with 76 points in the boys’ division. They also got an 11th-place finish from Seth Cox.
Marquette had just three runners in the girls’ division, so it didn’t have a team score.
The Explorers will compete in the Madison County championship meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson Park in Granite City.
