EAGLES SWEEP ROXANA BOYS AND GIRLS — The Civic Memorial Eagles played host to local rival Roxana on Wednesday at Airport Bowl in Bethalto and promptly swept the Shells.
On the boys' side, a late charge by the Eagles spurred them to victory. It was all knotted up after going into the third game of the series, but CM pulled away at the seventh frame to secure a 2,835 to 2,700 win over Roxana. As for the girls, the Eagles totaled 2,097 pins to 1,738 for the Shells.
Roxana's Christian Bertoletti turned in a 726 series to pace the Shells on the boys' side. He compiled games of 255, 238 and 233. CM's boys were led by Devin Davis with a 719 series. Davis rolled games of 231, 264 and 224.
For the girls, the Eagles were directed by Ashley Westbrook's 544 series. She had games of 198, 170 and 176. Roxana received its top billing from Andrea Mellenthin with a 415 series. Mellenthin turned in games of 147, 143 and 125.
CM plays host to the East Alton-Wood River Oilers at 3:30 p.m. today, while Roxana battles Southwestern on the road at 4 p.m.
EA-WR TOPS MOUNT OLIVE, BUT FALLS TO HIGHLAND IN TRIANGULAR — The East Alton-Wood River Oilers traveled to Mount Olive for a triangular with the host Wildcats and the Highland Bulldogs. They escaped with a split.
The Oilers defeated the Wildcats 45-28, while falling to the Bulldogs 57-15.
Drew Sobol, Zac Blasioli and Zach Kincade all picked up multiple wins on the mat for EA-WR.
Now the Oilers prepare for the EA-WR Super Duals at 9 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Gym.
