DUPO SLIPS BY EXPLORERS, DESPITE HANLON'S 14 POINTS — The Marquette Catholic Explorers couldn't quite get over the hump against the Dupo Tigers on Wednesday, falling 38-35 in non-conference action.
With the loss the Explorers sank to 2-6 on the season, dropping their fourth successive game.
Senior guard Caitlyn Hanlon did her part in the loss, pouring in a team-high 14 points. Lauren Fischer joined the attack with 8 points and 8 rebounds, while Taylor Aguirre scored 5 points in the loss also.
Marquette returns to action at 7:30 p.m. tonight, playing host to the Brussels Raiders.
GRANITE CITY FALLS IN ORCHARD FARMS TOURNEY — The Granite City Warriors dipped to 0-2 on the season Wednesday, losing 32-26 to Fort Zumwalt North in the second round of the Orchard Farms Tournament.
GCHS trailed 13-5 after the first quarter, but sliced the deficit to 19-16 entering the break. Unfortunately North outscored the Warriors 13-10 in the second half to lockdown the victory.
Granite City's Addaya Moore erupted for 21 points in the loss. Khadija Helms, 3 points, and Makenzi Meador, 2 points, were the only other Warriors to score in the loss.
The Warriors are back in action at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Orchard Farms Tourney against an opponent yet to be determined.
ALTON BOYS AND GIRLS TOP TAYLORVILLE— The Alton Redbirds won a pair of matches over Taylorville in boys' and girls' bowling.
The Alton boys prevailed 2,801-2,671 while the lady Redbirds won 2,659-2,327.
CM SPLITS WITH WATERLOO — The Civic Memorial Eagles split in boys' and girls' bowling with Mississippi Valley Conference rival Waterloo on Wednesday.
The boys won 2,768-2.664, but the CM girls were defeated 2,905-2,181.
Isaac Vancil directed the Eagle boys' squad with a 576 series. On the girls' side, Ashley Westbrook led CM with a 589 series.
