EA-WR LOSES TIGHT PSC MATCH AT HOME — The East Alton-Wood River welcomed the Metro East Lutheran Knights for Prairie State Conference action Wednesday, but fell short in three games, 25-23, 23-25 and 25-18.
It was the third consecutive loss for the Oilers, who dropped to 7-13 overall and 0-4 in the PSC. The Knights improved to 7-15 overall and 3-1 on the league slate.
EA-WR won the first game and looked to be ready to end it in two on Wednesday. After trailing 23-15 in Game 2, the Oilers went on a torrid tear, scratching it to 24-23 before MELHS' Rachel Calvert put down a kill to give Game 2 to the Knights.
Metro handled Game 3 pretty easily. The Oilers battled to a 10-10 tie, but the Knights reeled off seven straight points to go up 17-10 and didn't look back.
EA-WR returns to PSC play at 6 p.m. at Bunker Hill. The Oilers then participate in the Jersey Tournament on Saturday and play host to Greenville Tuesday before delving into the postseason. They open with local rival Civic Memorial in the Class 3A Greenville Regional on Oct. 26 in Greenville.
