CIVIC MEMORIAL def. EA-WR 25-21, 25-12 — The Eagles improved to 2-1 with a two-game victory over the Oilers in their home opener on Thursday.
EA-WR dropped to 0-3 with the loss. The Oilers lost to Gillespie and Jerseyville on Tuesday in the Roxana Tournament.
Both CM and EA-WR return to the Roxana Tournament on Saturday. The Eagles play Bunker Hill at 8:30 a.m. and the Oilers play Father McGivney at 9:30 a.m.
CM defeated Madison and lost to Roxana in its first two tournament games on Monday.
MCCLUER NORTH def. FATHER MCGIVNEY 25-18, 25-8 — Father McGivney dipped to 0-3 on the season with Thursday's home loss.
The Griffins now return to the Roxana Tournament with a 9:30 a.m. match vs. East Alton-Wood River on Saturday.
CIVIC MEMORIAL 3, FREEBURG 2 — The Eagles advanced to the championship match of the Metro Cup after knocking off the Midgets in overtime on Thursday.
Kaleb Bassett scored the game-winning goal in overtime and finished with two goals. Parker Calvin had a goal and Trevor Panyik had two assists for the Eagles.
Civic Memorial improved to 3-0 and will play Mascoutah at 7 p.m. Saturday in the title game.
ROXANA 3, STAUNTON 2 — Drew Ratliff, Austin Simms and Tyler Svoboda each scored goals to lift the Shells to a victory over Staunton in their South Central Conference opener on Thursday on the road.
Roxana (1-1) began its season on Monday with a 7-0 loss to Civic Memorial.
The Shells will play a pair of games on Saturday in the Carlinville Kickoff Classic. They will play Athens at 10:30 a.m. and Jerseyville at 4:30 p.m.
FATHER MCGIVNEY 2, LEBANON 0 — The Griffins moved to 1-0-1 with Thursday's road win.
Aaron Boulanger and Andrew Nwacha tallied goals for Father McGivney, both coming in the first half. Eli Skubish and Kellen Weir logged assists in the win, while Logan Shumate earned the shutout in goal, making three saves.
The Griffins now face Carlinville at 9 a.m. Saturday and Springfield Southeast at noon in the Carlinville Kickoff Classic.
BREESE CENTRAL 4, EA-WR 0 — The Oilers dropped to 1-1 with a loss to Breese Central on Thursday at home.
EA-WR, which started its season with a 6-3 win over Wesclin on Tuesday, will play a home match against Hillsboro on Sept. 6.
ST. JOSEPH’S ACADEMY 10, EDWARDSVILLE 7 — The Tigers began their season on Thursday with a loss to the Angels in St. Louis.
Edwardsville’s doubles teams of senior Morgan Colbert and junior Grace Desse, Natalie Karibian and Abby Cimarolli and Mackenzie Cadagin and Maria Mezo picked up victories.
The Tigers got wins from Karibian, Desse, Mezo and junior Kilauren McMahon in singles.
Edwardsville travels to Chicago this weekend for the New Trier Invitational. The Tigers will play two matches on Friday and two more on Saturday.
GRANITE CITY 198, CIVIC MEMORIAL 200, ROXANA 257, JERSEYVILLE N/A — Junior Megan Keel shot a 45, senior Ashley Richey fired a 46 and senior Phoenyx Derner finished with a 48 to lead the Warriors to a victory on Thursday at Belk Park Golf Course.
Granite City improved to 6-0 with wins over the Eagles and Shells and is a victory away from matching its team-record 7-0 start from last year.
Izzy Roberts fired a 45 and Maisey Watson and Taylor Stillwell each fired a 51 to lead CM. Roxana junior Bailey Sharpmack, who has finished with medalist honors in three matches this season, finished runner-up Thursday with a 44.
Jerseyville’s Hannah Taylor finished with medalist honors with a 43.
The Warriors, Eagles and Shells will compete in the Marquette Catholic Blast-Off Tournament at 1 p.m. Saturday.
EDWARDSVILLE 165, BELLEVILLE EAST 181 — The Tigers improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Southwestern Conference play with a win over the Lancers on Thursday at Clinton Hill Golf Course.
Junior Addy Zeller led Edwardsville with an even-par 36. Junior Paige Hamel shot a 40, senior Kayla Weinacht fired a 41 and sophomore Sydney Sahuri finished with a 48.
The Tigers will play in the Marquette Blast-Off Tournament at 1 p.m. Saturday at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course.
