MARQUETTE TAKES DOWN NORTH GREENE JV — The Marquette Catholic Explorers got off on the good foot in the consolation bracket at the Carrollton Invite on Monday, toppling North Greene JV, 59-21.
The Explorers improved to 9-13 on the season with the win.
Andria Pace guided the offense with 10 points, while Caitlyn Hanlon pitched in 9 points for Marquette in the win, too.
The Explorers now await the winner between host Carrollton and Madison, which play at 5 p.m. tonight. They face the winner at 5 p.m. Thursday with a shot to get to the consolation bracket finals.
GRANITE CITY TOPS GREENFIELD — The Granite City Warriors bested Greenfield 57-29 on Monday at the Carrollton Invite.
GCHS won for the second time in three games, improving to 5-13 overall and 1-1 in Carrollton.
Granite City jumped out to 17-6 lead after the opening frame and led comfortably at 34-14 at halftime.
Addaya Moore punched in 17 points to pace the Warriors. Donyai Garrett netted 11 points and Akila Fults scored 9 to complement Moore.
Granite City moves on in the consolation bracket, next facing Metro East Lutheran and 5 p.m. on Wednesday. MELHS beat Jacksonville Routt 43-30 on Monday to advance.
EA-WR DROPS PSC AFFAIR TO BUNKER HILL — East Alton-Wood River welcomed Bunker Hill for a Prairie State Conference contest on Monday, but unfortunately came out on the losing end, 60-40.
With the loss, the Oilers dipped to 1-20 overall and 0-3 in PSC play.
The Minutemaids raced out to a 13-10 lead after one and then 29-14 at the break. EA-WR dwindled it to 42-31 after three quarters, but was outscored 18-9 over the final eight minutes.
Becca Renken led the Oilers in scoring with 13 points, while Carly Campbell had 11 and Courtney Beneke scored 8 in the loss.
Bunker Hill's Mallory Schwegel led all scorers with 27 points, while Ashley Dey chipped in with 19 points.
EA-WR is back on the court at Memorial Gym at 7:30 p.m. tonight, playing host to Hillsboro.
ROXANA STUMBLES VS. GIBAULT — The Roxana Shells played host to the Gibault Hawks on Monday in a non-conference game, falling 37-30.
The loss was the sixth straight for the Shells, who sank to 9-14.
Abby Palen and Hannah Rexford were the offensive leaders for Roxana, each netting 11 points.
The Shells are back in South Central Conference action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday when they welcome Vandalia to Larry Milazzo Gymnasium.
