FATHER MCGIVNEY DEF. MULBERRY GROVE 25-21, 25-21 – The Griffins improved to 2-4 with a victory over Mulberry Grove on Monday at home.
It was Father McGivney’s first win at home. The Griffins, who are playing in their first varsity season, beat East Alton-Wood River in the 10th-place match of the Roxana Tournament for their first win in school history.
Emma Deist had eight kills, Claire McKee finished with 12 assists and four kills, Kara Mosby had 12 service points and eight digs and Macy Hoppes and Gwen Smith each had eight digs for Father McGivney, which has a home match against Metro-East Lutheran at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
CARLINVILLE 8, ROXANA 1 – Ethan Davies scored the Shells’ only goal in the loss to Carlinville on Monday at the Carlinville Kickoff Classic.
Davies gave Roxana (1-4) a 1-0 lead in the first half before the Cavaliers came back with eight unanswered goals, four in each half.
The Shells are 0-3 in the Carlinville Tournament. They will play Springfield Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday for 11th place in the 12-team tournament.
EDWARDSVILLE 151, ALTON 189 – The Tigers improved to 2-0 in Southwestern Conference play with a victory over the Redbirds on Monday at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course.
Luke Babington and Tanner White tied for medalist honors as they each shot a 1-over-par 37. Ben Tyrell fired a 38 and Kyle Hylla finished with a 39.
Alton, which dropped to 0-2 in conference play, was led by Dylan Lahue with a 45.
The Tigers play a quadrangular match against Granite City, Highland and Triad on Wednesday at the Legacy. The Redbirds’ next match is Wednesday against Belleville East at Clinton Hills Golf Course.
