EXPLORERS MOVE TO 8-0 ON THE SEASON — The Marquette Catholic Explorers moved to 8-0 on the season by defeating the Roxana Shells and Jersey Panthers in a triangular on Thursday at Rolling Hills Golf Course.
Marquette kept rolling on the season, carding a 147, while the Panthers turned in a 200 and the Shells shot 203.
Freshman Jack Patterson for the Explorers garnered medalist honors with a 1-under 36. He was joined in the scoring by Michael Holtz (36), Nick Messinger (38) and Duncan McLain (38). Kolten Bauer (40) and Sam Cogan (45) rounded out Marquette's linksters on the course.
CM WINS TRIANGULAR OVER EA-WR, MELHS — The Civic Memorial Eagles welcomed the East Alton-Wood River Oilers and Metro East Lutheran Knights to Spencer T. Olin Golf Course Thursday and came away with the win.
The Eagles shot a 170 to outlast EA-WR (188) and MELHS (202). CM ran its record to 8-2 on the season with the win. The Oilers are now 9-4 and Metro is 3-3. EA-WR's Drew Sobol and CM's Alec Hilliard led all scorers by both shooting 2-over 38.

The Oilers saw Brendon Allen (45), Hunter O'Brien (48) and Josh Clark (57) join Sobol in the team scoring.
ALTON DROPS SWC DUAL AGAINST EDWARDSVILLE — The Alton Redbirds and Edwardsville Tigers battled at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course Thursday in Southwestern Conference play with the Tigers coming away with the win.
Alton shot a 192 to come up short behind Edwardsville's 154.
Justin Hemings and Ben Tyrell of the Tigers tied for medalist honors, both shooting 2-over 38.
The Redbirds were led by Max Hunter, who shot 46. Other scorers for AHS were: Austin Erthal (47), Sam Ballard (48) and Connor Broyles (51).
LIGHTNING ERASES ALTON'S 1-0 LEAD OVER O'FALLON — Lightning ruined the Alton Redbirds' fun Thursday at Gordon Moore Park.
Alton led 1-0 over the O'Fallon Panthers in Southwestern Conference play when lightning flashes encompassed the field and officials called the game. A make-up date has not been set yet.
The Redbirds are 3-2-2 on the season and 1-0-1 on the SWC slate.
MARQUETTE TIES BELLEVILLE EAST — The Marquette Catholic Explorers traveled to Belleville Thursday and came away with a 1-1 tie with the Belleville East Lancers.
Marquette is now 3-3-3 on the season after the tie, while the Lancers are 0-5-1.
Zach Weinman of the Explorers booted the lone goal for them in the 16th minute. It was Weinman's 11th goal on the season and erased a 1-0 East lead. Chris Hartrich assisted on the score.
The Lancers found the back of the net in the fourth minute when Maxwell Elbe scored.
Marquette is back in action against Belleville West at 10 a.m. on Saturday at home.
ROXANA WINS 1-0 AT GREENFIELD — The Roxana Shells traveled to Greenfield on Thursday and picked up a 1-0 victory.
Roxana improved to 3-4-1 with the victory.
The Shells took a scoreless tie into the break, but booted one second-half goal to pull out the win.
CM LOSES 4-0 TO BREESE CENTRAL — Woes continued for the Civic Memorial Eagles as they dropped a 4-0 contest to Breese Central at the Bethalto Sports Complex.
CM sank to 1-7 on the season with the loss.
The Eagles took a scoreless tie into the break, but the Cougars responded with four second-half goals.
Ryan Little and Trevor Panyik each had three shots for CM to no avail in the game. Jacoby Robinson made 25 saves in goal for the Eagles in the loss.
Next up for CM is a 2:30 p.m. match Saturday at Gordon Moore Park against the Alton Redbirds.
MARQUETTE TOPS HIGHLAND — The Marquette Catholic Explorers played host to the Highland Bulldogs and pulled out a 6-3 victory in nonconference action Thursday.
The Explorers improved to 4-0 with the win.
In singles, Marquette picked up wins from: Shelby Jones, Elena Gable, Laura Moore and Anne Tassinari. Gable and Moore and Abby Simonds and Allison Hoefert teamed up to prevail in two of the three doubles flights.
ALTON DROPS FIRST MATCH OF SEASON TO EDWARDSVILLE — The Alton Redbirds welcomed the powerful Edwardsville Tigers to AHS on Thursday and suffered their first loss of the season, 9-0.
The loss sent the Redbirds to 4-1 overall on the young season and 0-1 in Southwestern Conference action. The Tigers are now 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the SWC.
ROXANA FALLS IN THREE GAMES TO GREENVILLE — The Roxana Shells battled the Greenville Comets in a South Central Conference match and fell in three games, 25-20, 19-25, 25-18.
With the loss the Shells are now 5-4 overall and 1-2 in SCC play.
The offense was paced by Braeden Lackey with seven kills and Kara Meyer and Niah Bevolo with five apiece. Bevolo dished out a team-high 15 assists also, while Brittany Alexander chipped in with seven assists. Lackey had a team-best four blocks and scored four aces to tie Alexander for the team lead.
The defense was directed by Meyer and Katie Herndon with six digs each.
The Shells return now return to action today, delving into play at the Alton Invitational which will conclude on Saturday. Roxana begins with Jersey at 5:30 p.m. tonight.
GRANITE CITY OPENS SWC WITH LOSS — The Granite City Warriors welcomed the Collinsville Kahoks to open Southwestern Conference play Thursday and came away with a loss.
The Kahoks swept the Warriors 25-17, 25-18.
GCHS sank to 2-7 overall and 0-1 on the league docket. Collinsville is now 3-7 and 1-1 following the win.
CM WINS QUAD OVER ROXANA, STAUNTON AND LITCHFIELD — The Civic Memorial Eagles battled past Roxana, Staunton and Litchfield in a quadrangular meet at Cloverleaf Golf Course on Thursday.
CM shot a 198 to outlast Roxana (202), Staunton (214) and Litchfield (217). Sara Gwillim of the Eagles and Andrea Mellinthin of the Shells shared medalist honors, each firing a 5-over 40.
CM saw Isabella Roberts (50), Carmen Phillips (53) and Reagan Walters (55) join Gwillim in the team scoring.
Roxana was guided by Mellenthin, Bailey Sharkmark (43), Emily Richards (58) and Sam Edwards (61).
