MASCOUTAH 12, CM 3 — CM ended its season at 10-16 with Monday's loss at Mascoutah in a play-in game of the Class 3A Triad Regional.
The Eagles grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Indians answered to tie it in the home half of the inning. CM dwindled the deficit to 4-3 with two runs in the top of the fifth, by Mascoutah responded again, this time with six runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 10-3 advantage. The Indians tacked on two insurance runs in their half of the sixth inning.
Ryan Allison absorbed the loss in the circle for the Eagles. Offensively, Cassie Reed was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and Katelyn Turbyfill smacked a homer in a two-hit performance to accompany two RBIs. Susan Buchanan also had two hits and on RBI.
Mascoutah now advances to meet Freeburg at 4:30 p.m. today in the regional semifinals at Triad.
TRIAD 10, MARQUETTE 0, FIVE INNINGS — The Explorers concluded their season at 5-18 on Monday, losing to Triad in a play-in game of the Class 3A Triad Regional.
Marquette mustered one hit in the game against the host Knights off the bat of Cayli Shinstock. Shinstock and Katelyn Fitzgerald each coaxed a walk in the game also, while Miranda Schroeder reached on an error.
Shinstock was tagged with the loss in the circle for the Explorers.
Triad moves on to face Jersey at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the regional semifinals.
COLLINSVILLE 7, GRANITE CITY 2 — The Warriors saw their season come to a close on Monday, losing to Collinsville at Arthur Fletcher Field in the play-in game of the Class 4A Belleville West Regional.
GCHS finished its rough season with a 4-31 overall record.
The Kahoks propelled themselves into the Belleville West Regional semifinals where they will see Edwardsville at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
WATERLOO 8, EDWARDSVILLE 3 — When the Tigers added a last minute regular season came with the talented Waterloo Bulldogs on Monday, they envisioned a more positive outcome.
Edwardsville lost to Waterloo at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, ending the regular season at 28-7.
EHS now delves into the postseason at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday against Collinsville in the Class 4A Belleville West Regional semifinals. A win catapults the Tigers into the regional title tilt set for 11 a.m. Saturday at West.
On Monday, the Bulldogs shot out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back. Edwardsville scored once in the bottom of the first to get it to 4-1, but that was as close as it could get.
Eight Tigers had hits in the game. Collin Clayton had the biggest blow with a triple, while Jake Garella, Cole Hansel and Tyler Stamer all muscled up for doubles.
Andrew Frank was the loser on the hill for EHS.
GRANITE CITY 2, ALTON 0 — Granite City and Alton opened the Metro East Lutheran Regional on Monday with a play-in game.
The Warriors cruised to victory over the Redbirds in straight games, 25-10, 25-20, to advance to the semifinals today. GCHS meets Belleville West at 5:30 p.m. tonight at Thomas Hooks Gym at MELHS. The host Knights and Edwardsville square off in the other semifinal at 6:30 p.m.
The two winners tonight clash at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the regional finals.
