EXPLORERS CONCLUDE INAUGURAL CAMPAIGN — The Marquette Catholic Explorers delved into the playoffs Wednesday, losing their first postseason appearance in program history 2-0 at Parkway West.
The Explorers closed their inaugural season with a record of 3-13-1. West moves to 13-5-1 with the victory and stays alive in postseason play.
Marquette found itself in a scoreless stalemate at halftime on Wednesday, but the Longhorns tallied a pair of second-half goals to grab the victory. Emma Ratliff and Kaleigh Riggs logged the goals for West in the win.
It was a vast improvement from the Explorers' 5-0 loss at West on Oct. 5. Marquette won its first ever home game on Monday, defeating Notre Dame of St. Louis 1-0 at Gordon Moore Park. The Explorers will play their home games at Moore Park next season.
ROXANA FALLS IN THREE AT MELHS — The Roxana Shells traveled to Metro East Lutheran in Edwardsville for a non-conference affair on Wednesday, coming away with a three-game loss to the Knights, 25-20, 11-25, 25-19.
The Shells dipped to 13-19 with the loss.
The play host to South Central Conference rival Gillespie at 6 p.m. tonight before delving into the Class 3A Greenville Regional against the host Comets at 6 p.m. Monday.
