EXPLORERS LOSE TO LITCHFIELD ON THE ROAD — The Marquette Catholic Explorers went on the road and lost 60-47 to the Litchfield Purple Panthers in a non-conference affair on Monday.
The loss dropped the Explorers to 2-5 on the season. It was their third consecutive loss.
Three Marquette players reached double digit scoring, highlighted by Brittany Pace's 13 points. Andria Pace and Caitlyn Hanlon each chipped in with 10 points in the loss, too.
The Explorers are now idle until 7:30 p.m. Thursday when they play host to the Brussels Raiders.
EA-WR BEFUDDLED BY SOUTHWESTERN — The Southwestern Piasa Birds visited Memorial Gym at East Alton-Wood River High on Monday and soared past the host Oilers 75-13.
After the loss EA-WR slipped 1-4 on the season. Southwestern is now 5-2.
The Birds led 26-4 after the first quarter and owned a comfortable 43-8 lead entering the break.
The Oilers received scoring from two players. Becca Renken scored seven points, while Carly Campbell netted six.
Southwestern distributed the scoring through nine players, led by three in double figures. Madison Greeling guided the Birds with 21 points, while Kelsey Rhoades scored 12 and Malea Bailey netted 10 points.
EA-WR is back in action at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Greenville.
GRANITE CITY OPENS SEASON WITH LOSS — The Granite City Warriors opened the Orchard Farms Tournament and their season with a loss on Monday, falling to Duchesne 35-26.
The squads were knotted at 10-10 after one quarter, but the Pioneers were able to carry a 21-14 advantage into the break. The Warriors whittled the deficit to 23-21 after three quarters, but were outscored 12-5 over the final eight minutes by Duchesne.
Addaya Moore had a stellar opener for GCHS, scoring a team-high 11 points to accompany 8 rebounds. Other scorers for Granite City were: Donyai Garrett with 8 points, Khadija Helms with 5 points and Vikoria Johnson with 2 points.
The Warriors next face Fort Zumwalt North at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Orchard Farms.
