MARQUETTE 2, COLLINSVILLE 0 — The Marquette Catholic Explorers began their season on Monday with a 2-0 win over the Collinsville Kahoks at Gordon Moore Park.
Chris Hartrich and Aaron Boulch had a goal apiece, Noah Fahnestock and Zach Weinman each had an assist and Nick Hemann had 10 saves in goal for the Explorers, who lost to the Kahoks 5-0 last year.
Marquette will play in the St. Anthony’s Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
GRANITE CITY 207, LITCHFIELD 220, ROXANA 265 – The Warriors are off to a 2-0 start after beating Litchfield and Roxana on Monday at Belk Park Golf Course.
Junior Megan Keel led Granite City with a 42 on the par-36 course. She finished runner-up to Roxana junior Bailey Sharpmack, who fired a 39.
ALTHOFF 168, BELLEVILLE WEST 200, CIVIC MEMORIAL 203 – Carman Phillips shot a 43 to lead the Eagles on Monday at Cloverleaf Golf Course.
Izzy Roberts finished with a 51, Maisey Watson fired a 52 and Reagan Walters shot a 57 for Civic Memorial, which plays Freeburg, Althoff and Waterloo at Stone Wolf Golf Course on Wednesday.
EDWARDSVILLE 162, COLLINSVILLE 180 – Senior Kayla Weinacht shot a 38 to lead the Tigers in their season opener on Monday against Collinsville.
Addy Zeller fired a 40 and Sydney Sahuri and Jessica Benson each fired a 42 for Edwardsville.
WESTMINSTER 1, MARQUETTE 0 – The Explorers began their season on Monday by getting shut out by Westminster Christian Academy on the road. Their next match will be Thursday at Edwardsville.
MT. OLIVE 2, MARQUETTE 1 – Michelle Cameron had 10 service points and eight kills, Marissa Nosco finished with 21 assists and Laura Hamilton had seven digs in the Explorers’ 25-18, 15-25, 14-16 loss to Mt. Olive in their first match of the Roxana Volleyball Tournament on Monday.
MARQUETTE 2, FATHER MCGIVNEY 0 – Payton Kline had 10 assists and Lauren Heinz had 10 service points to lead Marquette to a 25-10, 25-9 win over the Griffins at the Roxana Tournament. With the 1-1 record in Pool C, the Explorers will play the second-place finisher of Pool B at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
MT. OLIVE 2, FATHER MCGIVNEY 0 – The Griffins started Roxana Tournament play on Monday with a 25-10, 25-8 loss to Mt. Olive. With the 0-2 record in Pool C, Father McGivney plays against the third-place finisher in Pool B at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
COLUMBIA 2, ALTON 0 – The Redbirds began their season on Monday with a loss to Columbia on the road. Alton’s next match will be against Metro-East Lutheran on Wednesday at home.
