MARQUETTE TOPS MATER DEI FOR FIRST WIN — The Marquette Catholic Explorers traveled to Breese Thursday and topped the Mater Dei Knights 1-0 for their first win of the season.
The Explorers improved to 1-3-1 with the victory, while Mater Dei slipped to 0-4. It was the third straight 1-0 loss for the Knights.
Rebekah Jones logged the lone goal for Marquette, while Annabelle Copeland dished out the assist. Lauren Fischer garnered the shutout victory in goal.
ROXANA LOGS CONFERENCE VICTORY — The Roxana Shells picked up a 3-1 victory over Greenville at home on Thursday for their first South Central Conference triumph.
Roxana is now 2-1-1 overall and 1-1 in the SCC.
Emma Lucas, Haley Milazzo and Mykala Rosales all scored goals for the Shells in the win. Brittany Alexander, Lucas and Milazzo each had one assist. Braeden Lackey earned the win in goal, corralling three saves.
CM BESTS WESCLIN — The Civic Memorial Eagles bested the Wesclin Warriors 5-1 on Thursday.
CM is now 3-2-1 with the nonconference win.
Morgan Wilson and Cassie Hall each notched two goals in the win, while Alexis Enke scored once. Hall, Wilson, Enke and Elle Cummins all had one assist. Olivia Krebs was the winner in goal.
EDWARDSVILLE EARNS TWO WINS AT RAWLINGS TOURNAMENT — The Edwardsville Tigers kicked off the Rawlings Select Classic No. 2 in Cartersville, Ga. in style on Thursday.
EHS bested Hargrave Tigers, from Chatham Va., 4-2 and routed the Ralston Valley Mustangs, out of Arvada Col., 17-5.
Andrew Yancik and Andrew Frank picked up the wins on the hill for the Tigers.
Offensively, Mark Smith had a homer and four RBIs in the win over Ralston Valley. Collin Clayton led Edwardsville with two hits in the victory over Hargrave.
CM DEFEATS SOUTHWESTERN IN BETHALTO — The Civic Memorial Eagles secured a 4-1 win over the Southwestern Piasa Birds on Thursday at the Bethalto Sports Complex.
The Eagles are now 3-2 on the season, while the Birds fell to 0-3.
CM limited Southwestern to one hit, as Brandon Hampton struck out four, walked two, allowed the one hit and one unearned run over five innings to earn the win. Spencer Powell pitched the final two innings.
The Eagles had seven hits as a team. Hampton, Powell and Jaxsen Helmkamp had RBIs in the victory.
GRANITE CITY SECURES FIRST WIN — The Granite City Warriors bested Dupo 14-7 on the road Thursday for their first win over the season.
GCHS is now 1-2, while Dupo is 3-2.
Trent Jones got the win on the mound. Austin Bonvicino paced the bats, going 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, while Gabe Jarman was 3-for-5 with a team-best three RBIs.
EDWARDSVILLE BLASTS PAST BUNKER HILL — The Edwardsville Tigers blanked Bunker Hill 14-0 in five innings Thursday at the District 7 Sports Complex.
Edwardsville improved to 2-1 with the win.
A 10-run third inning highlighted the game for EHS. Jordan Garella got the win, scattering two hits, fanning four and walking one over five innings.
Offensively, Rachel Anderson steered the Tigers with a 3-for-3 day, including a double, triple and one RBI. Jordan Corby had a double and team-best three RBIs.
E'VILLE STARTS SEASON WITH WIN — The Edwardsville Tigers opened the 2016 season with a 25-10, 8-25, 25-19 victory at Althoff on Thursday.
Nick Allen led the way with 11 kills, while Curt Sellers picked up 6. Mike Horton set up the offense with a team-high 23 assists. Horton also had a team-best 7 service points.
GRANITE CITY EARNS VICTORY — The Granite City Warriors improved to 1-1 on the season Thursday, earning a 25-27, 25-22, 25-23 win over Waterloo Gibault at Memorial Gym.
