MARQUETTE CRUISES BY VISITING WATERLOO — The Marquette Catholic Explorers played host to Waterloo on Monday and came away with an 8-1 victory.
The Explorers improved to 14-3 on the season with the triumph.
Elena Gable, Laura Moore, Adri Ventigmlia and Anne Tassinari picked up singles wins, while Gable and Moore and Shelby Jones and Ventigmlia earned wins in doubles. One singles match and one doubles match were won by default.
Marquette heads to Triad at 4 p.m. today.
ALTON FALLS 1-0 TO JERSEY — The Alton Redbirds couldn't get over the hump vs. the visiting Jersey Panthers on Monday, losing 1-0.
Alton is now 9-5-3 on the season following the loss. Jersey improved to 16-3 with the victory.
The Panthers received a first-half goal from leading scorer Jake Ridenhour and made it hold up for the win. Alex Roth assisted on the score.
AHS goalie Devin Colley corralled five saves in the net, while Jersey goaltender Zac Ridenhour made six saves.
The Redbirds are back in action at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Belleville West in Southwestern Conference action.
MASCOUTAH RUNS ROUGHSHOD OVER ROXANA — The Roxana Shells traveled to Mascoutah on Monday and limped away with a 7-0 loss against the talented Indians.
Roxana dipped to 6-11-1 with the loss, while Mascoutah is now 9-7-1 after the victory.
Seth Ford of the Indians netted a trio of goals to guide the offense in the win.
The Shells are right back at it tonight with another tough matchup, playing host to the Marquette Catholic Explorers at 6 p.m.
MARQUETTE STUMBLES AT MELHS — The Marquette Catholic Explorers lost in three games, 20-25, 25-23, 25-23, in a tough match at Metro East Lutheran in Edwardsville.
With the defeat the Explorers are now 13-8 on the season.
Marissa Nosco had a whopping 27 assists in the loss, setting up Anna Daugherty's nine kills, Michelle Cameron's eight kills and Brittany Pace's six kills. Nosco also paced the service game with 15 service points and four aces, while Brittany Pace had 11 service points and three aces to complement her.
The defense got a workout, with Katie Geirer leading with 19 digs. Laura Hamilton had 16 digs, Daugherty had 11 and Nosco accumulated 10. At the net Brittany Pace had a team-high 13 blocks, while Cameron added nine.
The Explorers are back in action at 6 p.m. tonight at Valmeyer and then play at Roxana at 6 p.m. Thursday.
ROXANA LOSES AT PANA — The Roxana Shells came up short in South Central Conference action at Pana Monday, losing 25-22, 25-8.
The Shells are now 11-13 overall on the season and 2-5 in the SCC.
They are idle until a SCC showdown with at 6 p.m. Wednesday with Staunton at Milazzo Gymnasium. Roxana plays host to Marquette at 6 p.m. Thursday.
