MARQUETTE GETS BY NOKOMIS ON SENIOR NIGHT — The Marquette Catholic Explorers squeezed by Prairie State Conference rival Nokomis 26-24, 20-25, 25-22 on Thursday for Senior Night.
With the win the Explorers moved to 15-10 overall on the season and 4-1 in the PSC.
Senior Anna Daugherty led the charge, posting a team-best 11 kills, 15 digs, 16 service points and five aces. Brittany Pace matched Daugherty with five aces and added a team-high 11 blocks. She also had eight service points.
Other statistical standouts were: Michelle Cameron with six blocks, five kills and two aces, Andria Pace with eight blocks and five kills, Marissa Nosco with 26 assists, 11 digs and two blocks, Kate Cogan with 10 digs and Laura Hamilton and Katie Gierer with nine digs apiece.
Marquette wraps up the regular season at 6 p.m. on Oct. 22 at Madison.
ROXANA FALLS IN TWO TO SOUTHWESTERN — The Roxana Shells traveled to Southwestern and fell 25-20, 25-20 to the Piasa Birds on Thursday in South Central Conference action.
The Shells dipped to 13-19 with the loss.
Braeden Lackey and Kara Meyer paced Roxana with four kills each. Lackey also contributed three aces and six service points. Niah Bevolo chipped in with six assists and four service points.
Next up for the Shells is a 7 p.m. Wednesday match at Metro East Lutheran.
EA-WR LOSES AT BUNKER HILL — The East Alton-Wood River Oilers made the trek to Halfka Hall in Bunker Hill on Thursday and dropped a Prairie State Conference match to the Minutemaids, 25-23, 25-15.
The Oilers sank to 7-14 overall and 0-5 in the PSC with the loss.
EA-WR will be a participant in the Jersey Tournament this weekend.
ALTON LOSES TIGHT SENIOR NIGHT GAME TO COLLINSVILLE, 1-0 — The Collinsville Kahoks came to Piasa Motor Fuels Field at Alton High on Thursday and squeaked by the Redbirds 1-0 for Senior Night at AHS.
The regular season ending matchup saw the Birds close the season at 9-9-3 and 2-3-1 in the Southwestern Conference. Collinsville improved to 17-4-1 overall and 6-0 in its SWC championship campaign.
Logan Whitehead logged a second-half goal to lead the Kahoks to victory. Luis De Anda picked up the assist.
Alton enters the Class 3A Quincy Regional at 7 p.m. Tuesday, battling the host Blue Devils.
GRANITE CITY BLANKED 1-0 BY O'FALLON — The O'Fallon Panthers visited Granite City Thursday and blanked the host Warriors 1-0 in Southwestern Conference action.
Granite City closed the regular season at 3-14-3 overall and 0-5-1 in the SWC. O'Fallon wraps up 12-7-1 and 4-1-1 in league.
Noah Engel booted a second-half goal to lead the Panthers to victory Thursday. GCHS goalie Ryan Houston picked up eight saves in the loss.
The Warriors open the Class 3A Quincy Regional at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Collinsville.
COLUMBIA TOO MUCH FOR MARQUETTE — Alton Marquette took on the Columbia Eagles on Thursday, suffering a 6-1 loss in non-conference play.
The Explorers closed the regular season at 11-6-3 with the loss. Columbia concludes at 19-1-1.
Marquette's lone goal came off the foot of Zach Weinman in the 66th minute on an assist from Adam Hammond. Brandon Sanfilippo corralled 12 saves in goal.
The Explorers now open postseason play at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Class 2A Jacksonville Regional vs. host Jacksonville.
