MELHS 2, BELLEVILLE EAST 1 — The Knights made a valiant comeback to top the much bigger Lancers on Monday, 22-25, 25-15, 25-9. Metro improved to 12-9 with the victory.
It was Braden Woolsey pacing the net attack with 11 kills, while A.J. Risavy directed the offense with 24 assists and Thomas Schroader sparked the defense with 11 digs.
MELHS will be the No. 6 seed in its own regional and will play No. 3 Edwardsville at 6:30 p.m. on May 24.
The Knights still have three regular season matches remaining prior to regionals. They play host to Cape Girardeau Catholic at 6 p.m. Thursday and then go to East St. Louis on May 17 and Althoff on May 19.
VIANNEY 2, EDWARDSVILLE 0 — EHS fell to Vianney for the third time this season on Monday. The Golden Griffins defeated the Tigers 25-15, 26-24 at Vianney High.
With the loss Edwardsville sank to 16-12 on the season.
Nick Allen sparked the Tigers at the net in the loss, hammering home nine kills while having only one hitting error. Ben Lombardi set up the offense with 15 assists, while Will Bode supplied a team-high six service points and Spencer Burbach secured five digs.
Prior to the hometown showdown with the Knights at the MELHS Regional, EHS plays Alton at 5:30 p.m. tonight in a Southwestern Conference match, heads to East St. Louis at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and welcomes Belleville West at 5:30 p.m. ono May 17.
GRANITE CITY 2, RITENOUR 0 — The Warriors played host to Ritenour at Memorial Gym on Monday, winning in straight games, 25-14, 25-10. With the win Granite City improved to 5-8 on the season.
GCHS is 3-2 over its last five games.
