EA-WR 2, FATHER MCGIVNEY 1 — All the scoring happened in the second half, as the Oilers pulled out a one-goal win on the road over the Griffins Thursday.
Zac Lafferty and Luke Sims scored goals for EA-WR, while Jake Wells had an assist.
Father McGivney got its lone goal from Eli Skubish.
The Oilers improved to 4-2 on the season with the win, while the Griffins are now 4-1-2.
EDWARDSVILLE 2, O'FALLON 1 — The Tigers won in O'Fallon on Thursday to improve to 5-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the Southwestern Conference.
Riley Patterson and Michael Pichiotti scored goals in the win, while Alec Mills and Zach Timmermann supplied assists.
ALTON 5, TEUTOPOLIS 0 — Alton went on the road and topped the Wooden Shoes to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Skylar Funk and Walker Moan each contributed two goals to the winning cause, while Carter St. Cin booted in the final tally. Funk dished out two assists, Sam Stutz had one and Colin Lombardi added one.
The Redbirds outshot Teutopolis 21-0 and won the corner battle 12-1.
HIGHLAND 5, CM 1 — The Eagles suffered their first loss of the season on Thursday at the Bethalto Sports Complex. They dropped to 5-1 on the season and 0-1 in the Mississippi Valley Conference.
Kaleb Bassett scored CM's only goal, while Trevor Panyik picked up the assist.
TRIAD 4, GRANITE CITY 1 – The Warriors dropped to 0-2-2 with a loss to the Knights on the road on Thursday.
Senior Nathan Tanthavong scored the Warriors' lone goal in the first half. The four goals allowed marked a season high for Granite City, which will play Springfield at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Gene Baker Field.
BREESE CENTRAL 4, MELHS 0 — The Knights dropped to 3-3 after being shutout at home by Breese Central on Thursday.
MARQUETTE 139, HILLSBORO 155, STAUNTON 201 — The Explorers won a triangular at Rolling Hills on Thursday.
Michael Holtz of Marquette was medalist with a 2-under-33. Jack Patterson (35), Sam Cogan (35) and Nick Messinger (36) rounded out the scoring.
Marquette is now 5-0 in dual meets on the season and will square off with Edwardsville at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Fox Creek Golf Course in Edwardsville.
MARQUETTE 6, MASCOUTAH 3 — The Explorers topped Mascoutah on the road Thursday to improve to 1-1 on the young season.
Shelby Jones, Abby Simonds, Maria Wendle and Allison Peuterbaugh picked up singles wins for Marquette, while the teams of Jones/Anne Tassinari and Wendle/Peuterbaugh earned victories in doubles.
ALTON 13, CM 2 — The Redbirds and Eagles played 15 matches on Thursday at the Andy Simpson Tennis Complex at Lewis and Clark Community College with Alton coming out on top. AHS is now 3-1 on the season.
Six Redbirds picked up wins in singles and doubles, they were: Abby Fischer, Hannah Macias, Sam Clayton, Lucy Phillips, Maddie Saenz and Betsey Papin.
Alton now plays in the Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin Tournament on Saturday.
TRIAD 9, GRANITE CITY 0 — The Warriors started their season on Thursday with a loss to the Knights at home.
Granite City lost all of its singles and doubles matches in two sets. Kourtney Singleton, Maya Ware, Ashley Peck, Kayla Bridick, Olivia Brinker and Emma Van Buskirk lost their singles matches. The doubles teams of Singleton/Peck, Ware/Bridick and Sarah Schnefke/Haylee Winn also lost.
The Warriors were scheduled to start their season on Tuesday against Triad, but the match was moved to Thursday due to rain.
Granite City's next match will be on Tuesday against Belleville West at home.
MARQUETTE DEF. GREENVILLE 25-22, 22-25, 25-15 — The Explorers are now 4-3 on the season after beating the Comets in three games on the road Thursday.
Regina Guehlstorf had a team-best 7 kills, Laura Hamilton had 27 digs, Kate Cogan had 16 service points, while Marissa Nosco dished out 12 assists and Peyton Kline added 10.
ROXANA DEF. VANDALIA 25-21, 25-23 — The Shells welcomed Vandalia in South Central Conference action Thursday and pulled out a straight game victory.
Roxana is now 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the SCC.
JERSEY DEF. EA-WR 25-14, 23-25, 25-21 — The Oilers lost a three-game match to the Panthers in Wood River on Thursday. EA-WR dipped to 0-4 on the season with the loss.
HIGHLAND DEF. GRANITE CITY 25-6, 26-24 — The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 after spoiling the Warriors' season opener on Thursday at Granite City.
Granite City came close of sending the match to a third game. The Warriors led 24-23 in the second game before Highland – which started its season last week with a victory over Belleville East – came back with a 3-0 run to win the game and match.
The Warriors will play in the Alton Redbird Volleyball Classic this weekend. Granite City plays Southwestern and Orchard Farm on Friday and Alton, Triad and Gillespie on Saturday.
CIVIC MEMORIAL 208, ALTON 210, TRIAD 215, LITCHFIELD 216 – The Eagles improved to 5-8 with wins over Alton, Triad and Litchfield on Thursday at Rolling Hills Golf Course.
Carmen Phillips shot a 49, Isabella Roberts fired a 50, Sophie Blagoue had a 54 and Maisey Watson finished with a 55 for CM, which will play Litchfield, Roxana and Staunton on Sept. 8 at Cloverleaf Golf Course.
The Redbirds (2-7) were led by Morgan Bemis with a 47. Alton's next match will be against Edwardsville on Wednesday at Rolling Hills.
