EA-WR NABS THIRD PLACE AT CARLINVILLE KICKOFF TOURNEY — The East Alton-Wood River Oilers got past Springfield Southeast 3-1 on Thursday to nab third place in the Carlinville Kickoff Tournament.
The victory elevated the Oilers to 4-1-1 on the season.
EA-WR trailed 1-0 at the break against Southeast Thursday, but answered with three second-half goals to pull out the win.
David Barrett scored twice and Josh Turner was credited with the game-winning goal to pace the Oiler offense. Zach Lafferty and Luke Sims dished out assists, while Nick Barrett corralled 10 saves in goal.
EA-WR is idle until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when it travels to Hillsboro to battle the Hiltoppers.
CM STRUGGLES IN MVC LOSS TO HIGHLAND — The Civic Memorial Eagles dropped to 0-2 in the Mississippi Valley Conference on Thursday, falling to Highland 9-0 at home.
With the loss, the Eagles dipped to 1-5 overall.
They are back in action in the MVC at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday at Waterloo.
EAGLES WIN TRIANGULAR IN JERSEYVILLE — The Civic Memorial Eagles outshot Jersey and Mascoutah in a Mississippi Valley Conference triangular Thursday at Westlake Golf Course in Jerseyville.
CM's Alec Hilliard garnered medalist honors with a 1-over-36 and led the Eagles to card a 161 as a team to outlast Mascoutah (170) and Jersey (186). CM is 6-2 on the season with the win.
The rest of the Eagles lineup rounded out with: Tristen Frank (40), Will Spencer (41) and Parker Calvin (44).
MARQUETTE CRUISES PAST STAUNTON AND HILLSBORO — The Marquette Catholic Explorers had little issue in cruising past Hillsboro and Staunton Thursday at Rolling Hills Golf Club.
The Explorers fired a 149 as a team to top Staunton (186) and Hillsboro (193). Marquette is now 5-0 on the season with the win.
Jack Patterson was the low man with a 3-under-33 to earn medalist bragging rights. He was joined by Michael Holtz with a par-36, Kolten Bauer with a 1-over-37 and Nick Messinger with a 43. Sam Cogan (44) and Duncan McLain (46) rounded out the rest of the Marquette lineup on Thursday.
ALTON SECOND, CM THIRD AT QUAD — The Alton Redbirds and Civic Memorial Eagles competed in a quadrangular Thursday at Rolling Hills Golf Club in Godfrey with Triad and Litchfield. Triad escaped with bragging rights.
Triad shot a 186 to finish first, while Alton was second with a 208, CM was third with a 216 and Litchfield carded a 248 to finish fourth. Triad's Briana Bernardin (40) earned medalist honors.
The Redbirds got scoring from: Katie Keller (48), Morgan Bemis (51), Annie Maynard (54) and Addison Gregory (55).
The Eagles received scoring from: Sara Gwillim (46), Isabella Roberts (49), Carmen Phillips (58) and Maisey Watson (63).
ROXANA DOWNS SCC RIVAL VANDALIA IN THREE GAMES — The Roxana Shells defeated the Vandalia Vandals 25-12, 21-25 and 25-16 on Thursday in South Central Conference action.
The Shells moved to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the SCC with the win.
Roxana spread the love at the net. Abby Palen led with five kills and was joined by Niah Bevolo, Taylor Jackson, Kara Meyer and Braeden Lackey with four kills apiece. Lackey guided the serving game with 21 service points and nine aces, while Bevolo set the offense with 12 assists, Meyer had a team-high 11 digs and Lackey and Jordan Dipaolo each had two blocks.
MARQUETTE GETS BY GREENVILLE — The Marquette Catholic Explorers rebounded from a Wednesday loss to defeat Greenville 25-19, 13-25, 25-10 on Thursday at home.
The Explorers improved their record to 4-4 with the triumph.
Brittany Pace hammered five kills, while Marissa Nosco dished out 17 assists, Katie Gierer had 11 digs and Michelle Cameron picked up three blocks and three aces to guide Marquette statistically in the win.
EXPLORERS BEST MASCOUTAH, 6-3 — The Marquette Catholic Explorers improved to 2-0 on the season with a 6-3 victory over Mascoutah on Thursday.
In singles action, the Explorers picked up victories from Elena Gable, Laura Moore, Abbi Simonds and Anne Tassinari. In doubles wins came from the duo Gable and Moore and the tandem of Simonds and Tassinari.
Next up for Marquette is a dual at Roxana at 10 a.m. on Monday.
