OILERS WIN AGAIN – East Alton-Wood River posted its second win in two days as the Oilers shaded host Metro East Lutheran of Edwardsville, 3-2, on Tuesday. They had defeated Valmeyer, 4-1, on Monday.
Josh Turner and Luke Sims both collected a goal and an assist for 6-2-1 EA-WR. Jordan Schmidgall punched home a goal and Cameron Foust supplied an assist. All of the match’s scoring came in the second half.
The Oilers resume action Thursday at Litchfield.
EXPLORERS BOOT LITCHFIELD – Host Marquette walloped visiting Litchfield, 7-0, in a nonconference match at Moore Park. The Explorers improved to 5-4-3.
Zach Weinman scored three goals for the winners. Adam Hammond tallied twice, while Jacob File and Chris Hartrich added goals.
Hartrich notched two assists. Riley Velloff, Weinman, Hammond, File and Brandon Sanfilippo added assists.
Sanfilippo, the goalie, made eight saves to log the shutout.
EAGLES FALL TO MASCOUTAH – Visiting Mascoutah scored a 6-0 victory over Civic Memorial in a Mississippi Valley Conference match. The Eagles dropped to 1-10 and suffered their eighth consecutive setback. CM is scheduled to resume Valley play Thursday at Jersey High.
CM WINS TWO MORE – The Eagles improved to 10-2 by defeating Jersey and Highland in a triangular involving the three Valley teams at Westlake Country Club in Jerseyville.
CM shot 178 score. Jersey had a 184 and Highland was third at 187.
Alec Hilliard of the Eagles and Zach Droege of the Panthers shared medalist honors with rounds of 41. Tristen Frank (43), Parker Calvin (46) and Jake Sconce (48) added to CM’s totals.
EXPLORERS STAY UNBEATEN - Marquette raised its record to 9-0 by outshooting Triad at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Godfrey. The Explorers recorded a 149. The Knights had a 170.
The Explorers’ Kolten Bauer fired 35 for medalist honors. Nick Messinger (37), Jack Patterson (38) and Michael Holtz (39) also figured in the scoring. The Explorers will play host to a quadrangular on Thursday.
CRONIN SHINES FOR MARQUETTE – Carlee Cronin earned medalist honors by carding a 38 in leading Marquette to a victory in a quad at the Belk Park Golf Course in Wood River.
She shot a 3-over par 39 to pace the Explorers, who had a 180 total. Triad was second at 211 and Roxana third at 212. Jersey didn’t field a full team.
Madison Conners (46), Ellie Kane (47) and Brittany Barta (48) contributed to the Marquette scoring. Sophomore Bailey Sharpmack recorded a 45 to lead Roxana.
EAGLES SECOND IN QUAD – CM registered a 206 score to take second in a four-team event at the Litchfield Country Club Course. Hillsboro had a 189 to win it and Lindsey Storm of the Hiltoppers reigned as medalist with a 4-over-par 39.
Sara Gwillim of CM was runner-up with a 44 in powering the Eagles. Isabella Roberts (52), Carmen Phillips (55) and Maisey Watson (55) also figured in the Eagles’ totals.
Pana (233) and Litchfield (242) rounded out the team scores.
EXPLORERS TOP RITTER – Marquette scored a 25-7, 25-9 win over host Cardinal Ritter in a nonconference match in St. Louis.
Karoline Lauritzen (11 service points and five aces), Laura Hamilton (10 assists and four aces), Grace Frost (five kills), Katie Gierer (11 digs) and Faith Griffon (eight service points) also made key contributions.
The Explorers, now 9-6, welcome Prairie State opponent Bunker Hill on Thursday. They will also entertain rival EA-WR next Tuesday. (Sept. 22).
BULLDOGS BEST EAGLES – Visiting Highland downed CM, 25-13, 25-22, in the Eagles’ MVC opener. The Eagles resume Valley play Thursday at Waterloo and then participate Saturday in the Granite City Tournament.
Sydney Marshall amassed 11 assists for 7-3 Eagles. Cara Melton (four kills), Hannah Schmidt (four kills and two blocks), Kaity Kappler and Kennedy Carnes (three shared blocks, plus two solo blocks) led the Eagles.
