EA-WR BLASTS PAST HIGHLAND — Goals came early and often in a high scoring 8-6 win for the East Alton-Wood River Oilers over the Highland Bulldogs on Tuesday at East Alton Ice Arena.
The win lifted the Oilers to 3-10 on the season, even with the Bulldogs.
EA-WR led 3-2 after one period and 5-3 after two. Highland paced the Oilers in the third period as each team scored three goals.
Cole Ford and Kaleb Harrop augmented the night by each logging hat tricks in the win. EA-WR's Tyson Knight added to the scoring barrage with the other two goals. Chris Hamby dished out two assists to direct the passing attack, while Bryce Bazzell, Austin Compton, Ford, Harrop, Tyler McHatton, Nolan Royse and Jacob Vassos each notched one assist. Tyler Hamby earned the win in goal, compiling eight saves.
The Oilers are idle until 7:15 p.m. Dec. 29 when they battle rival Bethalto in East Alton.
GRANITE CITY CAN'T GET OVER HUMP VS. COLLINSVILLE — The Granite City Warriors welcomed the Collinsville Kahoks to the Wilson Park Ice Rink in Granite City on Tuesday, and promptly lost 9-5.
With the loss, the Warriors dipped to 3-9 on the season, while Collinsville lifted its record to 2-10-1 with the triumph.
Granite City leading scorer Brenden Colvin continued his hot hand by scoring a hat trick in the loss. Riley Brown and Isiah Hensley tallied the other two goals for the Warriors.
Jake Freivogel picked up the lone assist for Granite City.
Grant Jackson secured 26 saves in the net in the defeat for the Warriors.
They are back on the ice at 8:15 p.m. Dec. 29 against Belleville in Granite City.
FREEBURG/WATERLOO IS TOO MUCH FOR BETHALTO — The Bethalto Eagles met Freeburg/Waterloo on the ice Tuesday in East Alton, but couldn't concoct the winning formula, ultimately losing 8-3.
Bethalto dipped to 5-8 on the season with the setback. Freeburg/Waterloo moved to 7-5-1 with the win and is currently tied with Triad for fourth place with 15 points in the MVCHA standings.
The Eagles have 10 points and are in eighth place in the 12-team league.
