CARLISLE LEADS FIELD FOR SHELLS AT SCC TOURNEY — The South Central Conference Tournament took place at The Rail Golf Course in Springfield on Monday and Roxana's Zach Carlisle enjoyed a good day on the links.
Carlisle fired a 2-over 74 to earn medalist honors for the tournament for the Shells, earning all-conference accolades.
On the team front, Greenville earned the conference title with a 350. Roxana came in seventh as a team, shooting a 389.
Scott Anderson of the Shells finished in a tie for 10th with an 89 also.
ALTON PICKS UP SWC WIN OVER BELLEVLLE WEST — The Alton Redbirds corralled their first Southwestern Conference dual meet victory on Monday at Triple Lakes Golf Course in Millstadt against Belleville West.
The Redbirds carded a 191 to outdistance the Maroons, who turned in a 207.
Alton's Morgan Bemis garnered medalist accolades with a 43, winning by four strokes over West's Kelly Shea. The remainder of the AHS scoring lineup included: Annie Maynard (48), Katie Keller (48) and Addison Gregory (52).
The Redbirds are back in action today in the SWC Tournament at the Orchards Golf Club in Belleville.
EA-WR CRUISES BY GREENVILLE — The East Alton-Wood River Oilers secured their third consecutive win on Monday, besting Greenville 4-1 on the road.
The Oilers improved to 10-3-1 with the victory. They scored two goals in each half to cruise to the win.
David Barrett booted three goals, including the game winner. Jordan Schmigdall logged the other goal for EA-WR to go with an assist, while Luke Sims and Cameron Foust each dished out assists in the triumph. Nick Barrett made seven saves in goal to earn the win.
The Oilers are back on the pitch at 4:15 p.m. today against North Tech.
ALTON BATTLES BY KAHOKS IN SWC PLAY — The Alton Redbirds climbed to 2-3 in the Southwestern Conference on Monday, defeating the Collinsville Kahoks 8-1 at home.
AHS got victories from Shannon Willis, Abby Fischer, Mary McDaniel, Hannah Macias and Katie Cronin all picked up singles victories and doubles victories on Monday. The Birds swept the doubles field with Karen Rodriguez teaming with Cronin at No. 3 to close it out.
The Redbirds stay at home now, facing Granite City in SWC action at 4 p.m. Thursday.
