CLASS 4A EDWARDSVILLE REGIONAL — The host Tigers came out quickly to dispose of Quincy, 11-0, in a 6-inning regional semifinal game.
Emma Lewis and Allison Loehr both belted two-run home runs as the 27-5 Tigers closed Quincy’s season at 12-18. Edwardsville, the top seed, advanced to the regional title game at 11 a.m. Saturday.
The Tigers will play either Belleville East or Granite City for the championship. The Lancers and Warriors tangle at 4:30 p.m. today in the other semifinal. Edwardsville has won 11 consecutive regional crowns.
A five-run fifth inning enabled the Tigers to build a 7-0 lead against Quincy. They added four runs in the sixth to invoke the mercy rule in the lopsided affair.
Jordan Corby supplied a run-scoring double in that big fifth inning when the Tigers strung together five hits. Overall, she went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Sarah Hangsleben contributed a RBI triple in the sixth, while Rachel Anderson and Lewis each collected three hits.
Edwardsville had 16 hits in all to back winning pitcher Jordan Garella. She tossed a 2-hitter and improved to 19-2.
The Edwardsville Regional champ faces the Collinsville Regional winner, either Alton or O'Fallon, at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, in a semifinal game of the Normal Community Sectional. It will be played at Collinsville.
