ALTON NO-HITS PANTHERS — Alton's Gary Volz, Charlie Erler and Devin Conley combined to no-hit the Jersey Panthers in a 10-1 win Monday in Jerseyville.
The Redbirds improved to 3-1 with the win.
Volz picked up the win after getting the start and going 3.2 innings, walking five and fanning six. Erler fanned five in 2.1 innings of work and Conley pitched around a pair of errors to close out the no-hitter.
Noah Rathgeb and Sam Ballard each had three hits, while Steven Nguyen drove in three runs.
MARQUETTE TOPS MELHS, 9-1, IN PSC OPENER — The Marquette Catholic Explorers topped Metro East Lutheran 9-1 Monday at Martin Luther Field in Edwardsville in both teams' Prairie State Conference opener.
Marquette improved to 1-2, while MELHS is 2-3.
Brady McAfee struck out 10 in five innings to get the win, while Jacob File worked two innings of relief.
Liam Maher was 4 for 4 with 3 RBIs for the Explorers. Leadoff hitter Zach Weinman scored 4 runs for Marquette. Noah Coddington had the only hit for the Knights.
EDWARDSVILLE BLANKS MOLINE — The Edwardsville Tigers blanked the Moline Maroons 10-0 in five innings on Monday at Tom Pile Field.
The Tigers are now 2-0 on the season.
Tyler Hosto picked up the win on the mound. Joel Quirin and Tyler Stamer each smacked home runs and had 3 RBIs apiece, while Jake Garella paved the way with 3 hits.
VALMEYER EDGES EA-WR — The East Alton-Wood River Oilers lost a tight one 3-2 to the Valmeyer Pirates on Monday on the road.
EA-WR is now 1-2 on the young season.
The Oilers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but the Pirates answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning. EA-WR tied it in the third, but Valmeyer notched the game-winning run in the seventh to prevail.
MOXEY AND OILERS BLANK BUNKER HILL — Morgan Moxey struck out 10 hitters, leading the East Alton-Wood River Oilers to a 10-0 win over Prairie State Conference rival Bunker Hill in 6 innings Monday in Wood River.
The Oilers are now 2-2 on the season.
Carly Campbell paced the offense with three hits, including two doubles and five RBIs. Rebecca Null also logged three hits for EA-WR. The Oilers had 11 hits as a team.
ALTON TOPS QUINCY — The Alton Redbirds topped visiting Quincy 9-7 on Monday in their season opener.
Brittany Roady fanned 12 Blue Devils and scattered two hits in 6.2 innings pitched to garner the win.
Tomi Dublo blasted a home run and had four RBIs. Dublo was one of five Redbirds to have two hits, joined by: Savannah Fisher, Sydney Hartman, Miranda Hudson and Katelyn Presley. Fisher had a double and a triple.
CM BEATS COLLINSVILLE AT HOME — The Civic Memorial Eagles bested the Collinsville Kahoks 7-6 Monday at the Bethalto Sports Complex.
CM scored all of its runs in the first two innings and hung on for the victory to improve to 2-2.
Ryan Allison got the win in the circle for the Eagles. Susan Buchanan, Jenna Parmentier, Isabella Roberts and Katelyn Turbyfill all had two hits in the triumph.
GRANITE CITY BESTS RED BUD — The Granite City Warriors went to Red Bud Monday and left with a 6-1 victory.
GCHS is now 3-2 on the season.
Morgan Tanksley earned the win for the Warriors, fanning 11 Musketeers.
Tanksley, Sarah Boyd and Caitlin Patrick each had two hits in the victory.
EDWARDSVILLE FALLS TO GILLESPIE — The Edwardsville Tigers suffered their first loss of the season in their home opener, falling 7-3 Monday to the Gillespie Miners.
EHS is 1-1 on the season.
Gillespie's Addison Bryant mowed down 10 Tigers from the circle and held them to just two hits over the first five innings.
Allison Loehr suffered the pitching loss for Edwardsville. Rachel Anderson and Anna Burke each had two hits in the loss for EHS, while Hayli Green cracked a homer and had two RBIs.
MELHS BLANKED BY DUPO — The Metro East Lutheran Knights lost 13-0 in six innings to the Dupo Tigers at home on Monday.
Dupo scored 13 runs on 20 hits, while MELHS logged two hits in the loss.
ROXANA DROPS TOUGH ONE TO LITCHFIELD IN PKS — The Roxana Shells went into penalty kicks in their South Central Conference opener Monday, ultimately falling 4-3 to Litchfield at Wood River Soccer Park.
The Shells are now 1-1-1 on the season and 0-1-0 in the SCC.
The game went two overtime periods tied 3-3 before the Purple Panthers outscored Roxana 3-0 in PKs.
Emma Lucas, Haley Milazzo and Brittany Alexander all logged goals for the Shells. Lucas, Mykala Rosales and Allysa Copeland had assists.
Litchfield scored a goal in the final minute of regulation to force overtime.
