MARQUETTE CATHOLIC DEF. LITCHFIELD 25-12, 25-16 — The Explorers cruised to a victory over the Panthers in their home opener on Tuesday.
Michelle Cameron, Kate Cogan, Regina Guehlstorf, Lauren Heinz each had four kills, Marissa Nosco had nine assists and five service points and Peyton Kline had seven assists.
Marquette will play at Civic Memorial on Wednesday. The Explorers lost to the Eagles in the fifth-place match of the Roxana Tournament on Saturday.
HILLSBORO DEF. ROXANA 25-12, 25-21 — The Shells' South Central Conference season started on Tuesday on a down note as they lost to the Hilltoppers in two games on the road.
The Shells, who were coming off a third-place finish at the Roxana Tournament on Saturday, dropped to 3-2 with the loss. Hillsboro improved to 2-0.
CIVIC MEMORIAL 6, STAUNTON 1 -- Kaleb Bassett scored five goals to lift the Eagles to an easy victory over Staunton on Tuesday.
Bassett now has a team-high 12 goals for CM, which improved to 5-0.
Mikey Stevenson had a goal and an assist and Keante Hardimon had three assists for the Eagles.
CM, which was coming off a Metro Cup championship on Saturday, begins its Mississippi Valley Conference season on Thursday at Highland. The Eagles have outscored their opponents 24-6 after five games.
EDWARDSVILLE 4, BELLEVILLE EAST 0 -- The Tigers improved to 4-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in Southwestern Conference play with the win over the Lancers on Tuesday at home.
Alec Mills scored two goals and Michael Glisson and Mohammad Hamad each had a goal and Daniel Pichiotti made two saves in goal for the Tigers, who will travel to O'Fallon on Thursday.
METRO-EAST LUTHERAN 9, CHRIST OUR ROCK 2 -- The Knights improved to 3-2 with a home win over Christ Our Rock on Tuesday.
MELHS scored five goals in the first half and four in the second.
Kedric Norwood had three goals and four assists, Michael Papka had a two goals and an assist and Stephen Korte, Noah Landers, Logan McDaniel and Robert Scharp each had a goal for the Knights, who will play a home match against Breese Central on Thursday.
FATHER MCGIVNEY 6, WESCLIN 5 -- The Griffins improved to 3-0-2 after beating Wesclin in penalty kicks on Tuesday on the road.
The match was tied at 2-2 at halfitme and 5-5 after regulation.
Brandon Munoz and Eli Skubish each scored two goals and a D.J. Villhard had a goal for Father McGivney, which plays Athens on Wednesday in the Carlinville Tournament.
PANA 210, GREENVILLE 213, STAUNTON 229, ROXANA 232 — Roxana junior Bailey Sharpmack earned her fourth medalist honors of the season after firing a 39 in the Shells' South Central Conference quadrangular match at Indian Hills Golf Course in Fillmore.
CARLINVILLE EARLY MEET — Marquette Catholic freshman Riley Vickrey turned in another solid performance on Tuesday at the Carlinville Early Meet.
Vickrey finished eighth with a time of 20 minutes, 47 seconds in the girls' race to earn her second medal in less than a week. She placed 27th in the Kickoff Meet at SIUE on Saturday.
Senior Adam Sanders was the Explorers' top finisher in the boys race, placing 39th with a 20:17.
Father McGivney finished in a tie for seventh with Staunton with 205 points. Derek Shearer finished 35th with a 19:44.71 to lead the Griffins.
Megan Schilly was Father McGivney's top finisher in the girls' race, placing 49th with a 24:20.58.
