EXPLORERS CAN'T GET BY JERSEY — The Marquette Catholic Explorers made a game of it, but couldn't get by the Jersey Panthers on Wednesday in Jerseyville
After prevailing in the first set, Marquette fell in three sets to the Panthers, 23-25, 25-22, 27-25. With the loss the Explorers sank to 3-6 on the season.
Leaders statistically for Marquette were: Taylor Rook with nine kills, Alyssa Herzing with 18 assists and four aces, Katie Gierer with 21 digs and Brittany Pace with nine blocks, four solos and five assists.
Next up for the Explorers is the East Alton-Wood River Tournament on Saturday where they will work as a co-host.
MARQUETTE AND ROXANA DROP TRIANGULAR TO COLLINSVILLE — The Collinsville Kahoks outlasted Marquette Catholic and Roxana on Wednesday at Belk Park Golf Course in Wood River.
The Kahoks turned in a 195 to squeak past Marquette (199) and Roxana (204) in the team standings.
Carlee Cronin of the Explorers garnered medalist honors with a 45. Joining Cronin in team scoring for Marquette was: Brittany Barta (46), Madi Connor (54) and Lauren Walsh (54).
The Shells got scoring from: Andrea Mellenthin (47), Miranda Cunningham (47), Lindsay Chapman (50) and Bailey Sharpmack (60).
The Explorers are set to face Carrollton and Edwardsville at 4 p.m. today at Lockhaven, while Roxana plays host to Civic Memorial, Litchfield and Staunton at 3:30 p.m. today.
ALTON AND EDWARDSVILLE POSTPONED — The Alton Redbirds and Edwardsville Tigers had three holes left at Oak Brook Golf Course on Wednesday when Mother Nature intervened.
Lightning stopped play Wednesday with rain quickly to follow. The Redbirds and Tigers have rescheduled with a triangular at Oak Brook including Granite City on Sept. 23.
