GRANITE CITY 180, ALTON 187, EA-WR 197 — The Warriors improved to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in Southwestern Conference play with victories over the Redbirds and Oilers on Wednesday at The Legacy Golf Course in Granite City.
Drew Wielgus shot a 41, Riley Brown finished with a 45 and Sam Wielgus and Bennett Smallie each shot a 47 for Granite City, which will compete in the O’Fallon Panther Classic on Friday at Tamarack Country Club.
Matt Moore shot a 39, Dalton Lahue finished with a 48, Ryan Boyd shot a 49 and Dillon Lahue and Brayden Haug each shot a 51 for Alton, which dropped to 3-5 and will also compete in the O’Fallon tournament on Friday.
EA-WR’s Drew Sobol earned medalist honors with a 37.
EDWARDSVILLE 160, SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 167, MARQUETTE CATHOLIC 187, TRIAD 206 – Kayla Weinacht shot a 2-over 37 to lead the Tigers to a victory in a quadrangular match on Wednesday at Oak Brook Golf Club.
Addy Zeller shot a 40, Paige Hamel fired a 41 and Sydney Sahuri finished with a 42 for Edwardsville, which improved to 14-0.
BELLEVILLE EAST 174, ALTON 193 – The Redbirds dropped to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in Southwestern Conference play with a loss to the Lancers on Wednesday at Clinton Hill Golf Course.
Addison Gregory led the Redbirds with a 45. Also for Alton, Morgan Bemis fired a 46, Jenna Fleming shot a 49 and Alaina Kottabi finished with a 53.
Alton will compete in the Belleville East Par 3 Tournament on Thursday at Yorktown Golf Course.
COLLINSVILLE INVITATIONAL – Granite City sophomore Andrew O’Keefe cruised to the victory in the boys' race at the Collinsville Invitational on Wednesday at the Collinsville High School campus.
O’Keefe finished with a time of 16 minutes, 56.9 seconds and won the boys race by over a minute. He took over first place after the first mile and never looked back.
Kariem Ali placed 13th with a 19:39, Aiden Sampson finished 14th with a 19:39 and Leo Nikonowicz was 15th with a 19:56 for Granite City, which finished third in the four-team meet with 61 points.
Alyssa Comer was the Warriors’ top finisher in the girls race, placing fifth with a 22:48. Granite City had just three runners and didn’t have a team score.
The Warriors’ next meet will be the Alton Invitational on Sept. 21.
HILLSBORO 2, ROXANA 1 (OT) – The Shells dropped to 1-9 with an overtime road loss to the Hiltoppers on Wednesday.
Dalton Greenwood scored the game-winning goal for Hillsboro in the overtime period.
Roxana has a road match on Thursday against Southwestern.
QUINCY NOTRE DAME 7, MARQUETTE CATHOLIC 2 – The Explorers fall to 2-2 with a home loss to Quincy Notre Dame on Wednesday.
Adri Ventigmlia and Maria Wendle won singles matches the Explorers, who play another home match on Thursday against Granite City at Lewis and Clark Community College.
BELLEVILLE EAST 8, ALTON 1 – The Redbirds dropped to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in Southwestern Conference play with a loss to the Lancers on Wednesday at home.
Alton’s only win came from its No. 1 doubles team, Abby Fischer and Hannah Macias.
The Redbirds play a home conference match against East St. Louis on Thursday.
GIBAULT DEF. METRO-EAST LUTHERAN 25-15, 25-15 – Ashlee Robinson had four kills, Lydia Flaherty finished with six assists and Katherine Lange had five serving points to lead the Knights in their loss to Gibault on Wednesday.
MELHS dropped to 4-10 and will be competing in the Belleville East Tournament on Saturday.
LUTHERAN SOUTH 1, MARQUETTE 0 – The Explorers dropped to 0-3 with a loss to Lutheran South on Wednesday in St. Louis.
The Explorers, who have yet to score a goal this season, will play their next match on Tuesday against Oakville at Gordon Moore Park.
