Belleville — Will McLemore, a 2014 East Alton-Wood River grad and former AdVantage News Male Cross Country Runner of the Year, led the Belleville-Lindenwood Lynx to an eighth place finish last weekend at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic.
In doing so, McLemore earned his first American Midwest Conference Runner of the Week honor. The sophomore finished 17th out of 365 runners and set a school record in the process.
Narrowly edging out teammate Francisco Zaragoza — who won the last AMC Runner of the Week award — McLemore finished in 26:26.01, besting the previous best mark by less than a second, which was set by Zaragoza last weekend. McLemore and the Lynx were forced to run on a muddy and trampled course but it didn't faze the young team as they continue to show why they one of the best teams in the conference.
McLemore and the Lynx will take two weeks off from competition before traveling to Iowa to compete in the Seminole Stampede on Saturday, Oct. 24.
