Thunder storms blanketed the area on Friday night in the Metro East area and put a damper on Week 2 prep football.
Alton, Civic Memorial and Roxana have all been postponed until Saturday. East Alton-Wood River's game in Centralia was called and school officials decided not to reschedule it, while Marquette Catholic and Quincy Notre Dame finally resumed play shortly prior to 10 p.m.
CM owns a 7-2 lead over visiting Mattoon with 7:08 remaining in the first quarter. The game will resume at 2 p.m. on Saturday from where it left off.
The Eagles opened play with Patrick May recovering an onside kick on the opening kickoff. they then went 48 yards on six plays, capped by Zach Klocke stuffing in a touchdown from 1-yard out at the 10:13 mark of the first quarter. The Green Wave then cut it to 7-2 with a safety at the 7:23 mark.
The Redbirds trail the Cahokia Comanches 6-0 with 4:39 left in the opening quarter on the road. That contest will return to the gridiron at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Cahokia quarterback Korrion Session hooked up with Marquis Murray for a 69-yard TD strike at the 4:39 mark. Alton then stymied the Comanches attempt at a 2-point conversion. Cahokia will be kicking off to AHS when play resumes.
Marquette was halted with 7:41 to play in the first quarter. QND leads 7-0 after Logan Arens punched in a TD run. It has now resumed play.
Roxana's game at Pana was postponed prior to kickoff on Friday. That game will return to action at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
EA-WR trailed the Orphans 28-0 at the end of the first quarter in Centralia. School officials decided to call the game, so it goes in the book as a loss for the Oilers. They are now 0-2 as they prepare to open their first ever stint in the Prairie State Conference at 7 p.m. next Friday at Mount Olive.
