The Alton Knights of Columbus Hall will play host to the end of the year Quarterback Club Award Banquet at 7 p.m. Nov. 18.
The K of C Quarterback Club has also landed their guest speaker for the dinner, announcing on Wednesday that former Marquette Catholic head coach Tim Nelson will fill that position.
Nelson coached the Explorers to a 33-19 record over five years from 2008-2012. In his final '12 season, Nelson helped lead Marquette into the Class 4A state quarterfinals, going 2-1 in the postseason and 10-2 overall.
Nelson left to coach Dupo to a 4-5 record in 2013. He was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in October of 2013, during Week 9 of the football season. A former standout player at Calhoun, Nelson has been battling cancer over the last year, while he also returned to the Warriors as their defensive coordinator.
Besides Nelson as the guest speaker, the K of C Quarterback Club will also hand out awards for offensive line of the year, defensive lineman of the year, defensive back of the year and offensive back of the year.
Tickets for the banquet are $25 apiece, which will also include a chicken dinner. Tickets may be purchased at the door, or if interested can be picked up early by contacting Bill Keller at 781-5245.
