The Civic Memorial Eagles played host to a 7-on-7 football tournament on Saturday in Bethalto and enjoyed a pretty successful day.
CM started off slow in pool play before heating up. The Eagles lost to Roxana and Rochester before beating Jackson in their final pool play game.
Other notable teams playing in the tournament were Collinsville, Vianney, Breese Central, Murpheysboro, Farmington, Altholff, and Sacred Heart-Griffin. Pictured is Eagles receiver Tim Klocke making one of his leading ten touchdown catches.
The Eagles changed gears during eliminations. First besting Farmington then taking down Vianney. Next up in the semifinals was a chance for a rematch against the record five-time class 4A Illinois state champs Rochester. CM pulled out a victory and its reward was a finals match against class 5A state champs Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin.
The Eagles had a seven-point lead going into the final minutes, but on the game's final possession the Cyclones scored a touchdown. With four seconds left, SHG decided to go for the win instead of the tie by attempting a two-point conversion, which was good. The Eagles went down in the final by one point.
CM wide receiver Tim Klocke highlighted the day with a team-leading 10 touchdown catches.
