GODFREY — The Alton High School Sports Hall of Fame is wanting your input. The group is seeking nominations for its fifth annual Athletics Hall of Fame class.
This year’s inductees will be announced Nov. 25 during halftime of an AHS boys’ basketball game in the Redbirds’ Tip-Off Classic.
Candidates include athletes, coaches, teams or athletics contributor. Athletes must have graduated from Alton High at least five years prior to the process. Coaches must have served a minimum of seven seasons as a Redbirds’ head coach. Teams must have compiled quality records and advanced deep into state competition. Athletics contributors include support staff, media personnel, administrators, etc.
Criteria includes success in a particular category and good citizenship.
Joe Hook, the Redbirds’ assistant director of athletics, is coordinating the nomination process. The nomination deadline is Sept. 28. The selection committee will finalize this year’s inductees Oct. 15.
Other committee members are: Jeff Alderman, Mike Brey, Dan Carter, Scott Harper, Norm Iman, Stan McAfoos, Terry Mitchell, Steve Porter and Oscar Wallace.

The inaugural class was in 2011. Last year’s inductees were Brad Baker, Camie and Carrie Bechtold, Bobby Everage, Wade Lowe, Floyd C. Raglin, Bill “Red” Schmitt, Rob Simpson, Gene Velloff and the 1984 boys’ soccer team.
