CARLINVILLE — Four Greater Alton prep players will participate in the 13th annual Carlinville Rotary Club All-Star Basketball Classic set for Sunday, March 22, at Carlinville High.
Mike Stimac of East Alton-Wood River and Randy Skiff of Roxana will be among the players on the West boys’ squad. Maddy Sheraka of Roxana and Kari Westbrook of EA-WR are members of the West girls’ team. The girls’ all-star game is set to start at 4:30 p.m. The boys’ all-star game will follow at 6:30 p.m.
There will be a 3-point shooting contest for both boys and girls and a dunk content for the guys. The Carlinville Rotary Club will present an MVP award after each game, which will have four, 10-minute quarters.
The West boys lead their series 9-3 and the East girls own an 8-3 advantage in their competition. Admission is $5 per person, with children 10-and-under admitted free.
Proceeds benefit the Carlinville Rotary Club for its community projects.
No fewer than 54 seniors, showcasing 20 high schools, are competing in the classic. Players are from five counties: Madison, Macoupin, Montgomery, Greene and Jersey. Carlinville’s Darrin DeNeve will coach the West girls and Brett Berry of North Greene will guide the West boys. Rachelle McDowell of Nokomis is coaching the East girls and Todd Cantrill of Greenville is directing the East boys.
Other players on the West girls include: Maddie Struble, Madison Mountain and Rachel Williams of Carrollton, Mackenzie Nichols and Micah Peebles of Waverly, Ashlyn Ringhausen of Southwestern, Kathleen Kelly, Talesha Scott and Megan Stayton of Carlinville, Arika Hull of North Greene and Taylor Oxford of Bunker Hill.
The rest of the West boys’ team includes: Nathan Randall, Connor Vincent and Elijah Barber of North Greene, Jacob Alepra and Quentin Zenner of Gillespie, Jake Varble and Luke Shively of Jersey, Briston Johnson, Andrew Fry and Blake Lawson of Southwestern, Austin Plogger of Greenfield and Joeb Easterday of Carlinville.
