The local golf season is just around the corner and Jim Odle is in the middle of it again.
Odle, a Litchfield resident and frequent top player in the Alton Gold Medal and Godfrey Open, is coordinating the second annual Metro Cup. He’s a former Gold Medal champion in the city championship at Rock Spring Golf Course.
This year’s Metro Cup competition features play in seven events. They are:
Oak Brook Open on April 16 in Edwardsville
Indian Springs Invitational on May 7 in Filmore
Godfrey Open on June 4-5 at the Rolling Hills Course in Godfrey
Timer Lakes Mid-Summer Classic on June 25-26 in Staunton
Cloverleaf Go Low Open on Aug. 20 in Alton
Greenville Labor Day tourney on Sept. 3-5 at the Greenville Country Club
Metro Cup match play on Oct. 29-30 at the Arlington Course in Collinsville.
“With one year in the books, we are looking forward to an exciting 2016 season,” Odle said. “Participation seems to be growing from the first year, with the talent increasing as well. We have players from Illinois, Missouri, Indiana and Mississippi. Players from all over the Midwest are finding out about us. It's a good thing."
He added, “What will be new this year is having 16 qualifiers, instead of 8, for the Metro Cup championship. This format will reward high finishes in each event instead of receiving points for just playing.”
Interested golfers should contact Odle for details. He can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or (217) 313-7522.
