The Roxana Shells were represented well on the mat when the South Central Conference recently released its all-conference teams.
Seven Shells picked up conference accolades. Senior Dalton Brito (126) and junior Jarod Foiles (132) were first-team selections. Brito finished fifth at the Class 1A individual state tournament in February.
Second-team picks for the Shells included: sophomore James Henseler (106), Michael Cherry (145), senior Luke Curtis (182), Brett Nyswonger (220) and Owen Robinson (285).
Henseler brought home a sixth-place medal at the Class 1A state tournament.
The boys' basketball team, which reached the semifinals of the Class 2A East Alton-Wood River Sectional and finished 16-16, got just one all-conference representative.
Junior sharpshooter and leading scorer Trace Gentry picked up first-team honors.
For the Roxana girls' program, senior Maddy Sheraka meant a lot. Sheraka joined the 1,000-point club this season and became the all-time leading scorer in school history. She was honored by being a first-team all-SCC selection for the Shells.
