CARLINVILLE — The West swept the East on Sunday at the 13th annual Carlinville Rotary Club All-Star Basketball Classic.
The West won the girls' game 46-37 as MVP Maddy Sheraka of Roxana scored 13 points with three treys to lead the West All-Stars. Sheraka also won the Country Financial 3-point contest beating Ashlyn Ringhausen in a shootoff after both players hit 10 of 15 shots in the opening round.
In the boys' game, the West outlasted the East 107-104 in overtime as Greenfield/Northwestern's Austin Plogger drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer in overtime. Plogger led the West with 22 points including six 3-pointers and was named the game's MVP.
Auburn's Cooper Eaker hit a trey at the end of regulation for the East to force overtime.
North Greene's Connor Vincent won the slam dunk contest in a dunk off by edging Dylan Miller of Hillsboro with 42 points to 40 for Miller. Blake Lawson of Southwestern drained 11 treys to win the Country Financial 3-point contest.
The boys' game is just the second overtime game in the 13-year history of the event. Ironically, the East beat the West by the same 107-104 score in 2005.
The West won their fourth in a row and now lead the all-time series 9-3.
The Coaches of the Year awards went to Rachelle McDowell of Nokomis for the girls and to Todd Cantrill of Greenville for the boys.
"We had the best crowd in the 13-year history of the event," tournament coordinator Tim Tarter said. "And they were rewarded with arguably the most entertaining boys' game we've ever had."
