Alton High junior Matthew Daniel swam a personal-best time in the 100-meter freestyle and picked up a top-25 finish in the 200-meter butterfly at the Futures Championships from Aug. 4-7 at the University of Texas in Austin.
Daniel, who was competing for the Tri-City Area Tidalwaves, finished with a time of 53.63 seconds in his 27th place finish in the preliminaries of the 100-meter freestyle on Aug. 6. The day before, he placed 23rd in the finals of the 200-meter butterfly in 2:11.33.
Daniel advanced to the finals of the 200-meter butterfly by finishing 24th in the preliminaries with a time of 2:10.99
Frank Niziloek of the St. Charles (Ill.) Swim Team won the 200-meter butterfly after placing third in preliminaries.
Shaine Casas, who swam unattached, won the 100-meter freestyle in 51.51 seconds.
