The AAU Junior Olympic Games took place at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, on July 26 through Aug. 2 with representation from Alton and Godfrey. Jada Bruce placed 18th in the girls’ 8U shot put with a throw of 14-4.5. Aaliyah El-Muhammad was 22nd in the girls’ 9-year-old long jump with a leap of 11-4.5 and first in the 9-year-old triathlon with 919 points. Sinaya Bruce was 79th in the girls’ 10-year-old 100-meter dash prelims with a time of 17.32, 55th in the long jump with a jump of 10-2.5 and 38th in the shot put with a toss of 12-10.5. Lailah Elliot took 22nd in the girls’ 15-16 100-meter prelims clocked at 15.84, was 10th in the high jump with a leap of 5-02, 21st in the triple jump at 35-4.25 and 15th in the heptathlon with 3,722 points. Lajarvia Brown grabbed 36th with a leap of 15-10 in the long jump and 18th in the triple jump with a jump of 35-10.
