Bryan Hudson got his redemption Thursday afternoon.
The Alton High junior left-hander stymied Belleville West, 3-1, on a one-hitter in a Southwestern Conference game. The Maroons beat Hudson and the Redbirds, 1-0, earlier this season.
Both games were in Belleville. Thursday’s game was moved from Alton because of wet field conditions at Moore Park.
In addition to allowing just one, Hudson struck out 11 as the Redbirds improved to 17-13. The Maroons took a 1-0 lead in the third, but the Redbirds scored three times in the fifth to secure the victory. They had five hits in all and Hudson pitched around three errors.
Hudson helped his cause with a pair of hits and two RBIs. Aaron Bonnell had a hit and drove in a run for the Birds.
Alton, now 4-8 in the SWC, is scheduled to play Tuscola at Busch Stadium on Saturday afternoon following the St. Louis Cardinals’ game against the Atlanta Braves. The Cards’ game is slated to start at 1:15.
