Twin City put together a solid performance in the All American Classic in St. Louis over the weekend.
The independent South Roxana American Legion Post 1167 squad went 4-1 overall and finished runner-up in the tournament. After going 1-1 on Sunday, Twin City owns an impressive 18-2 record on the season.
After beating the St. Louis Redbirds blue squad 3-1 in the semifinals on Sunday, Twin City came up just short in a 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Sting in the title tilt.
John Whitworth suffered the loss on the hill in the championship game. He worked five innings, scattering five hits and allowing three earned runs.
Blake Vandiver sparked the offense with a 2 for 3 performance with a double and one run scored. Spencer Heineman supplied a hit and a RBI in the loss.
In the semifinal win over the Redbirds blue team, Andrew Fry was the winning pitcher, tossing five innings, surrendering three hits and one earned run. Heineman secured the save with two innings of work, while allowing no hits and fanning five.
Heineman was also the star at the dish, going 2 for 3 with a double, triple, run scored and two RBIs. Vandiver was 1 for 3 with a RBI and two runs scored, while Whitworth, Randy Skiff, Blake Lawson and Blake Marks all contributed hits.
