Mid-Illinois Gymnastics gymnasts Mackenzie Butler and Amber Exton.
GODFREY — Mid-Illinois Gymnastics gymnasts Mackenzie Butler and Amber Exton have been selected as tumblers to the girls’ national team for the U.S. Tumbling and Trampoline Association.
The selection process consisted of three national Team Trials Meets with 88 Elite-level competitors in tumbling, trampoline and double-mini trying for 26 spots. Butler was third and Exton fifth overall in tumbling. National trials were held in Salem, Ill., in December, in Belvidere, Ill., in January and in Hammond, Ind., in February.
Butler, 14, Level 10; and Exton, 15, Level 9 in USA all-around gymnastics, have been all-around gymnasts (vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise) as well as USTA Elite Tumblers for many years. Their busy schedules did not allow them to try out for the national tumbling team until this year. The team members will go to camp and have a team trip to Colorado as well as perform in the opening ceremonies of USTA national championships for the next two years.
This year’s nationals are June 14-18 in Knoxville, Tenn. Mid-Illinois coaches and teammates say they are proud of these two girls.
