Each week during the 2014 prep football season the Knights of Columbus Quarterback Club will release its Players of the Week awards. Following are the Week 1 winners for '14.
OFFENSIVE LINE OF THE WEEK:
The Shells O-line protected for 465 total yards of offense and 40 points scored during the Week 1 64-40 loss at Carlinville. Members of the Roxana O-line are: Brennan Harris, Luke Curtis, Ethan Kurth, Billy Mathis, Josh Rudd and Trace Gentry.
Civic Memorial's offensive line was also a nominee.
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK
RICCO GIPSON — ALTON
Alton's Ricco Gipson produced 11 line tackles and five assists for 16 total tackles in Alton's 44-12 victory at home over Pekin during Week 1.
Other nominees were: Luke Curtis of Roxana, Devin Daniels of CM and Asa Collins of Alton.
OFFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK
ADAM HILL — CIVIC MEMORIAL
The Civic Memorial junior quarterback went 11 of 16 passing for 208 yards and four touchdowns and also had three carries for 11 yards and a rushing TD in Week 1's 49-7 victory over Marquette Catholic.
Other nominees were: Blake Vandiver of Roxana and Kareem Hamilton of Alton.
DEFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK
JOSH LOVINGS — ALTON
Alton senior corner back Josh Lovings produced five solo tackles and one assist for six total tackles in the 44-12 win over Pekin in Week 1. Lovings also had an interception in the season-opening triumph.
